The Far Cry games, do not have any important shared narrative elements, but they share a theme of setting the player in a forest environment where they must assist battle against one or more tyrants that govern the region. The games also feature multiplayer options and the capacity for users to alter the games’ maps for these matches. The Far Cry games have generally been well-received with lifetime sales of the Far Cry franchise exceeding 20 million units.

1. Far Cry 5: Dead Living Zombies

Dead Living Zombies is the final downloadable content installment from the Far Cry 5 Season Pass. The player must survive wave after wave the attacks of ravenous zombie hordes. It was released on 28 August 2018.

Set in Montana countryside that’s filled and crawling with undead fodder you must fight your way through. It features various weapons, vehicles, and even strange romantic scenes.


2. Far Cry Vengeance

Far Cry Vengeance is a remake of Far Cry Instincts: Evolution and it was released on 12 December 2006. Platform: Wii.

Far Cry Vengeance stars three new levels, new weapons, vehicles, and controls. Far Cry Vengeance received negative reviews upon its release, with most reviewers criticizing its graphics, overly compressed full-motion video, and poor artificial intelligence on the enemies. Vengeance features deluxe content, such as a new storyline and three new maps.

3. Far Cry: Blood Dragon

Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon is a stand-alone expansion to the Far Cry 3 and the eighth installment in the Far Cry series. It was released on 30 April 2013, winning the VGX award for the best downloadable content. Platform: Microsoft Windows Platform: PC, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360.

The game occurs on an island with players taking the role of the military cyborg Sergeant Rex Power Colt. The game features the use of high powered explosives, heavily modified firearms, and a large knife. The game also features side missions such as liberating garrisons, killing rare animals, and saving hostages.


4. Far Cry Instincts: Evolution

Evolution is a sequel to Far Cry Instincts, released on March 28, 2006. Platform: Xbox

Evolution features a new single-player mode, which is relatively shorter than the campaign found in the original Far Cry Instincts. Evolution also features new weapons and vehicles, as well as an expanded map-maker and an extra multiplayer mode.

The storyline begins a while after Instincts. Jack Carver is hired by a woman named Kade for an arms deal between pirates and the government in Micronesia. Jack carver is framed for the attack on the deal and the murder of the pirate leader and the Micronesian governor.  Now he must stop the rebel leader named Semeru.


5. Far Cry Instincts: Paradise Lost

Paradise Lost is a two-player arcade cabinet shooter arcade game port of Far Cry Instincts released in 2007. Available for player use are stationary turrets armed with rockets and grenades as power-ups. Players assume the role of Jack Carver alongside his unidentified partner, who has to fight using a pair of swivel-mounted machine guns and a limited number of rockets and grenades.

There are four levels, from which players can select one of the four with which they will navigate through the environment while fighting mercenaries, mutant Trigens, and small dinosaur-like lizards.

After the climax of all four levels, a fifth level is opened in which the players have to travel through the island’s main facility culminating in an ultimate battle against a mutagen-enhanced Colonel Crowe.

6. Far Cry Primal

Far Cry Primal was released on 23 February 2016. It is a spin-off of the Far Cry series. It is the first of the Far Cry series with settings in the pre-modern era. Platforms: PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Microsoft Windows.

It tells the story of the rise of Takkar, who starts off as an unarmed hunter and rises to become the leader of a tribe. Far Cry Primal is an action-adventure game without vehicles and guns as featured in the Far Cry series thus far. Possible enemies ranged from wildlife to hostile tribesmen.

Primal also features a survival mode which increases the game difficulty. Primal was mostly praised for the concept and setting, as well as its animal-taming mechanic and design.


7. Far Cry Instincts: Predator

Far Cry Instincts: Predator warms released on March 28, 2006. Platform: Xbox 360.

Predator, an Xbox 360 exclusive game, was released on the same day as Evolution. It comprised of graphically enhanced versions of both Far Cry Instincts and Evolution.

Predator though was a visual disappointment with a solid and enjoyable gameplay

It featured a map editor with which the players can build maps. Characters available on the online play are basically clones of Jack Carver which can be edited.


8. Far Cry: New Dawn

New Dawn is a spin-off of the Far Cry series, a narrative sequel to Far Cry 5, and a standalone entry. It was released on 14 February 2019. Platforms: PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Microsoft Windows

New Dawn is occurring in the fictional post-apocalyptic Hope County. This setting occurs seventeen years after the incidents of Far Cry 5.

After the nuclear war known as “the Collapse” destroyed the world, survivors begin to overhaul the community in Hope County. The player acts the role of The Captain, whose goal is to help the settlement of Prosperity defend itself against the marauding Highwaymen and their commander the maniacal Twins.

New Dawn features several pre-existing gameplay components from the series which includes a large open world, capturing outposts, and artificial intelligence; but it also introduces many new elements from role-playing gameplay to an upgradeable home base and heightened dependence on crafting from limited supplies.

9. Far Cry Instincts

Far Cry Instincts was initially released on 27 September 2005 and it’s a remake of the original Microsoft Windows version of Far Cry. Platform: Xbox.

Instincts feature the addition of new multiplayer modes, weapons, and feral abilities. The game also features a map editor that enables the player to build their own maps with access to vehicles, guns, buildings, trees; and the capacity to alter the landscape.

Far Cry Instincts is an Xbox-exclusive remake of the first game. The player is Jack Carver and he is charged with stopping the mutation experiments of a mad scientist named Dr. Krieger.


10. Far Cry 5

Far Cry 5 is the standalone successor to Far Cry 4, and it’s the fifth installment in the Far Cry series. It was released on 27 March 2018. The game occurs in Hope County, an imaginary region of Montana, United States. Platform: PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One.

The plot centres on the Project at Eden’s Gate, a doomsday cult that has dominated the county under the authority of its charismatic and powerful leader, named Joseph Seed.

Players control a junior deputy sheriff who becomes trapped in Hope County and must help factions of a resistance to liberate the county from the authoritarian rule of the Seed’s and Eden’s Gate. The Game focuses on fight and exploration; players combat enemy soldiers and dangerous wildlife with the aid of various weapons. Far Cry 5 features elements found in RPGs, such as a branching storyline and side quests. It also features a map editor, a co-operative multiplayer mode, and a competitive multiplayer mode.


11. Far Cry 3

Far Cry 3 is the third major installment in the Far Cry series. It was released on 29 November 2012. The game occurs on the fictitious Rook Islands, a tropical archipelago. Platforms: PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox One, Xbox 360, Microsoft Windows

A variety of weapons are available to players in their quest to defeat human enemies and hostile wildlife. The game features elements found in RPGs such as skill trees and experience.

The plot revolves around the protagonist Jason Brody who after a vacation goes awry, must save his friends, who have been abducted by pirates, headed by the antagonist Vaas and must flee from the island and its unhinged dwellers. Available firearms include assault rifles, sniper rifles, grenade launchers, rocket launchers, and explosives such as land mines and grenades.

Far Cry is the first installment in the Far Cry series, succeded by Far Cry 2. Initially released on 23 March 2004, Platforms: PlayStation 3, Microsoft Windows, and Xbox 360

Set on a strange tropical archipelago, Far Cry focuses on ex-special forces soldier Jack Carver who is in search of a journalist named Valerie Constantine whom he was escorting after she went missing when their boat was demolished by mercenaries.

This RPG allows the player to use several weapons and tools and also take the privilege of their environments. The environment encompasses land, water, indoor and outdoor structures. Multiplayer features three different modes namely Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch, and Assault.

13. Far Cry 4

Far Cry 4 is the successor to Far Cry 3, and the fourth installment in the Far Cry series. Release on November 18, 2014.

The game occurs in Kyrat, a fictitious Himalayan country. The story stars Ajay Ghale, a young Kyrati-American, who is on a quest to spread his deceased mother’s ashes, caught in a civil war affecting Kyrat’s Royal Army, governed by authoritarian king Pagan Min, and the rebel movement named the Golden Path.

Far Cry 4 concentrates on warfare and exploration. The game features several elements found in role-playing games, especially branching storyline, and side quests. The game also features a map editor and multiplayer mode. Various short and long-range firearms, including pistols, revolvers, shotguns, assault rifles, submachine guns, bows, a flamethrower, rocket launchers, grenade launchers, and sniper rifles are available. Far Cry 4 also bestows on players the ability to kick objects and to hide the corpses of enemies. Far Cry 4 was awarded the Best Shooter Award from IGN in 2015.


14. Far Cry 2

Far Cry 2 is the second installment of the Far Cry series, foregone by 2004’s Far Cry, and succeeded by 2012’s Far Cry 3. It was released in North America and Europe on October 21, 2008, and October 24, 2008, respectively.

Far Cry 2 revolves around a guy named the Jackal an arms mule who has spun two factions in Africa against each other. Players are allowed to ally with one or multiple groups and advance through the game world and missions as they deem fit. This is commonly referred to as sandbox mode which allows the story to develop at the player’s speed and in their preferred order.

Several factions and vehicles exist and enemies include human mercenaries. There is a changing weather system featuring a day-night cycle and various weather conditions. The health bar depicts the health of the player which is split into five segments. The player has permit to a large armory of real weapons, such as machine pistols, battle rifles, shotguns, sniper rifles, rocket launchers, handguns, and light machine guns. Far Cry 2 has practical features such as weapon degradation and the dynamic weather system. Multiplayer mode in Far Cry 2 encompasses the dynamic elements of the single-player game. Far Cry 2 was praised for its open-ended gameplay, visuals and artificial intelligence, and game settings.
