Job Summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 4 Specialist ADHD/AUTISM Support Worker to support and work directly under the Specialist ADHD/autism Practitioner to provide a range of interventions for patients with a diagnosis of ADHD/ autism, including those with co-morbid mental health or physical health problems, within the adult neurodevelopmental services.
You will have the opportunity to ensure all patients receive equal opportunities for their care needs, to deliver training to other staff, to signpost and build relationships with other providers, all whilst developing your own skills and knowledge, and attend all specialist ADHD/AUTISM training/seminars.
Main duties of the job
- As the specialist ADHD/AUTISM Support Worker, you will be-
- Working without direct supervision to support the Specialist ADHD/ autism practitioner in the assessment, care planning, implementation, and evaluation of patients’ needs.Monitoring and reviewing patients’ needs and reporting any concerns directly to the Specialist ADHD/ autism Nurse.
- Assisting and supporting ADHD patients to take their prescribed medication and liaising with the patients’ pharmacy, family, and GP if required.
- Utilising outreach skills to proactively assist and support ADHD/autism patients to engage with services.
- Assisting the Specialist ADHD/autism Nurse to undertake the regular physical health checks of ADHD patients and ensure data and records are up to date, and any concerns are dealt with.
- Identifying ADHD/autism patient co-morbidities, including mental health issues, physical health conditions, and substance misuse, and working with the Specialist ADHD/autism practitioner, Multi-Displinary Team, and outside agencies to ensure the care they receive is appropriate.
- Identifying and supporting the Specialist ADHD/autism practitioner to manage patients in crisis and follow the urgent care pathway, reporting any concerns to the Duty practitioner within the adult neurodevelopmental service.
- Be the patients and their carers/families’ first point of contact in the absence of the Specialist ADHD/autism practitioner.
Person Specification
Qualifications
Essential
- NVQ 3 or equivalent experience
- Specialist training and understanding of ADHD/AUTISM
Desirable
- ADHD/Autism coaching qualification
Knowledge & Expertise
Essential
- Knowledge of ADHD and AUTISM, relevant clinical practice, and NICE guidelines
- Knowledge of mental health and substance misuse co-morbidities
Desirable
- Personal development within current role
- A genuine interest in ADHD/AUTISM and the difficulties that the conditions present
Experience
Essential
- Experience of working in a multi-disciplinary team
- Experience working with clients with ADHD and AUTISM
- Experience of running clinics and appointments
- Experience in running groups
Desirable
- Community mental health team experience
- Experience providing educational sessions to staff and patients
