Job Description

To deliver safe, effective and patient-centred pharmaceutical care and to support the efficient day-to-day functioning of the pharmacy.

The role has responsibility for stock ordering and inventory management, ensuring timely procurement of medications, proactively chasing orders that are outstanding and leading on the promotion and delivery of the NHS Pharmacy First service to maximise patient access and service growth.

Main responsibilities:

  • Dispensing safely and accurately in line with GPhC standards and the law.
  • Give professional assistance on minor health issues, medications and good lifestyle choices.
  • Carry out clinical checks and supervise the dispensing.
  • Provide NHS and commercial pharmacy services including Pharmacy First, immunisations, blood pressure checks, contraception services and other commissioned services as applicable.
  • Ensure correct patient records are maintained and that they comply with confidentiality and data protection regulations.

Inventory Management

  • Responsible for overall ordering of medicines and pharmacy stock to ensure optimum availability.
  • Monitor stock levels and consumption trends to assist in reducing stockouts and waste.
  • Follow up with distributors and manufacturers on backordered, late or out of stock product.
  • Source alternative sources or appropriate items amid shortages, while ensuring patient safety.
  • Ensure stock rotation and expiry date checks are performed, and controlled medicine stock is managed in line with regulatory requirements.
  • Stock discrepancy investigation and corrective actions.
  • Keep stock at levels to fulfil patient requirements and control costs.

Pharmacy First Leadership

  • Champion Pharmacy First service throughout the pharmacy team.
  • Identify and signpost patients eligible for Pharmacy First consultations.
  • To maximise referrals, work collaboratively with GPs, NHS 111, local healthcare providers and wider multidisciplinary team.
  • Train, encourage and motivate pharmacy personnel to confidently identify eligible Pharmacy First opportunities.
  • Track service activity and performance against established targets.
  • Educate patients and engage the community to promote Pharmacy First.
  • Ensure that consultations are carried out and recorded correctly to NHS standards.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise the daily operation of the pharmacy.
  • Provide great customer service and patient satisfaction.
  • Support workforce planning and workflow management.
  • Ensure implementation of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), GPhC standards and NHS contract requirements.
  • Support audit efforts. Support quality improvement activities.
  • Support the accomplishment of pharmacy business goals and expansion of service.

Person SpecificationEssential Criteria

  • Registered Pharmacist with General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC)
  • Sound clinical knowledge and decision-making skills.
  • Previous experience in a community pharmacy setting.
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Good understanding of NHS pharmacy services including Pharmacy First.
  • Ability to handle inventories effectively and address supply difficulties proactively.
  • I am confident in using pharmacy PMR systems and wholesaler ordering systems.

Request

  • Experience of leading service delivery within the NHS.
  • Experience in handling Pharmacy Stock budgeting and procurement.
  • Independent Prescriber qualification (preferred not needed).
  • Management experience or leadership experience.
