Job summary
To provide physical activity advice, individual exercise assessment and prescription to appropriate cardiovascular patients in the clinical setting. To work with the cardiovascular rehabilitation team to develop and deliver lifestyle behaviour change programmes & exercise services. To support and contribute to safe and effective service delivery eg, equipment checks, cleaning, appointment reminders etc
Main duties of the job
Cardiovascular Rehabilitation Within a multi-disciplinary team, assist in the co-ordination, delivery and development of a comprehensive cardiovascular rehabilitation programme, to include:
- Prepare and be responsible for the completion of patient functional capacity tests to establish physical capabilities and develop tailored programmes of exercise suitable to the patient’s needs and limitations.
- Assist in clinical assessments and risk stratification
- Have the ability to travel across South Cumbria and deliver cardiovascular rehabilitation
- Assist with the delivery of educational talks, such as exercise, goal setting and nutrition.
- Be responsible for the supervision and demonstration of exercise-based cardiovascular rehabilitation sessions
- Ensure adequate levels of supervision of all rehabilitation sessions in line with service policies and procedures and according to the patient’s care plan
- Ensure that all patients progress through the relevant stages of the programme at the correct

Essential
- Recent experience and knowledge of leading structured and graded exercise sessions including high risk cardiovascular patients
- Have basic knowledge of the BACPR and ACPICR standards
- Minimum of NVQ Level 3/Diploma or above in an exercise physiology related subject
- Access to transport for work purposes
Desirable
- Evidence of further study in an exercise physiology-related subject
- Recent experience of assisting in patient education sessions
- Up-to-date knowledge of national and local strategies to reduce CVD
- Basic Life Support
