Job overview

The post holder will be a Ward Manager headquartered at the Linden Center on Finchingfield Ward.

Finchingfield Hospital Finchingfield Ward is an 18-bed male acute mental health treatment hospital. It provides psychiatric assessment, inpatient care and treatment for males with acute mental health challenges

Role Key Responsibilities

The post holder will be responsible for the assessment of care needs and the creation, execution and evaluation of programs of care for service users with mental health issues. The post holder is expected to operate autonomously in carrying out the tasks of the post but with support under the overall management supervision of the Clinical Manager/Matron. You will also be expected to play an active role in the training and education of learners on the ward and will promote integration between the ward teams and the community services.

All our permanent personnel are automatically enrolled onto the staff bank; however, this does not mean you have to work any more shifts but the opportunity is there for you if you choose.

Description of the job

Job duties

  • To create objectives for the delivery of care within the area, and to develop methods of implementation and monitoring of these in cooperation with the Clinical Manager/ Matron, Service Manager, Associate Director and Director.
  • To work in partnership with the Executive Nurse to develop nursing practice across the inpatient wards.
  • Knowledge/understanding of the legislation likely to be faced as part of the position e.g. Mental Health Act 1983 as modified in 2007, Misuse of Drugs Act 1971, Access to Information Act 1986, Health and Safety at Work Act 1974.
  • To guarantee compliance with the requirements set out in the Trust’s CPA Policy & Procedure.
  • In conjunction with the Clinical Manager/Matron, Service Manager and Director, record and investigate occurrences, complaints, accidents and ensure all relevant documentation is completed and sent as soon as possible following the incident.
  • Take part in and assess audit and research in the unit.
  • To take a lead role in infection control within the ward and to ensure that all Trust policies are adhered to.
  • Notify the Clinical Manager/Matron, Service Manager and Director of all breaches of nursing professional conduct as mandated by the NMC Code of Professional Conduct.
  • To act as a contact point with Human Resources and maintain the relevant Policies and Procedures to deal with staff issues.
  • Joint oversight & administration with the adjoining Ward Manager of the Health Based Place of Safety with help from the Clinical Manager/Matron.
  • Be responsible for own knowledge of current mental health services and a commitment to maintaining own personal career development in line with Trusts Appraisal and Development Policy.

Person specification Qualifications

  • Registered Nurse (RMN)
  • Experience of Deputy Ward Manager or equivalent
  • Personal and professional development evidence
  • DBS Check (Disclosure and Barring Service)
