Main duties of the job
This role is integral to delivering safe, effective, and patient-centred aseptic pharmacy services at University Hospital Southampton. As part of a high-performing aseptic unit, you will support the efficient day-to-day running of the service, ensuring the consistent provision of high-quality products that meet patient needs and regulatory standards.
As an experienced and accredited technician, you will take a leading role in coordinating workload, allocating tasks, and ensuring priorities are met within a busy environment. You will mentor and support junior staff, contributing to their development through training, guidance, and role modelling professional best practice.
You will actively contribute to the continuous improvement of the aseptic service by identifying opportunities for development and supporting the review, update, and implementation of Standard Operating Procedures. Working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team of Pharmacists, Technicians, and Support Workers, you will communicate effectively, escalate issues appropriately, and uphold the Trust’s values and professional standards at all times.

Qualifications/Training Required
Essential
- Registered pharmacy technician in the UK by the GPhC / registered Science Manufacturing Technician (Apprenticeship Standard- Level 3 Diploma in the Principles of Aseptic Pharmaceuticals processing) in the UK by the Science Council
- Numerate and literate e.g., GCSE in Maths and English A* to C or equivalent, or IELTS test score 7 as required by GPhC if overseas candidate
- One of the following additional pharmacy qualifications – Accredited Checking PT (ACPT) Pre and In Processing Checking (PIPC), medicine management accreditation, TAQA assessor, CIPS level 4, foundation management or equivalent demonstrable experience of day-to-day operational management of staff and workload.
- Experience of staff management/operational workload supervision
Desirable
- Completion of Practice supervisor programme or equivalent.
- Additional pharmacy qualifications e.g. Completed APTUK Foundation Framework, Foundation management or other recognised management qualification or demonstrable management experience TAQA, Medicines Management qualification PIPC ACPT CIPS level 4
Previous or relevant experience necessary
