Aneurin Bevan University Health Board is seeking an exceptional Senior Data Engineer to join our Business Intelligence team and play a leading role in our ambitious digital transformation journey.

This is an exciting opportunity to help modernise healthcare data platforms, delivering innovative cloud-based solutions that directly support clinical services, operational performance, and strategic decision-making across one of Wales’ largest Health Boards.

Main duties of the job

As a Senior Data Engineer, you will provide technical leadership across our enterprise data platform, designing and delivering robust, scalable and secure data engineering solutions across both cloud and on-premise environments.

You will have:

Significant experience designing and building automated, scalable data pipelines.
Advanced Python and SQL development skills.
Hands-on experience with Google Cloud Platform technologies, including BigQuery, Airflow/Cloud Composer, Cloud Run, Dataform and Dataplex.
Experience delivering complex technical projects in fast-paced environments.
A passion for mentoring others and developing high-performing engineering teams.
The ability to communicate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Experience

Essential

Extensive experience in the design, build, test, modify, and maintain data pipelines and data stores, creating complex or large-scale data products.

Desirable

Experience in the design, build, test, modify and maintain data pipelines and data stores, creating complex or large-scale data products within a healthcare setting..

Knowledge

Essential

Extensive experience in a broad range of data engineering exercises, including data models such as Kimball’s Dimensional Data Modelling.

Desirable

Experience in a broad range of data engineering exercises, including data models such as Kimball’s Dimensional Data Modelling within a healthcare setting.

Skills

Essential

Extensive experience in using key programming languages, including T-SQL and Python.

Desirable

Experienced in key programming languages, including BigQuery SQL.

Abilities

Essential

Extensive experience in developing complex data engineering processes using a range of technical tools.

Desirable

Experience in developing complex data engineering processes using a range of technical tools within a healthcare setting.
