Job Summary
The Paediatric Audiology department at HCT is looking for an audiology assistant to join the team. The main job role will be the second tester in hearing assessment appointments, helping the audiologist test children.
This job is perfect for someone with a natural ability to work well with children, who can engage and comfort children easily, helping to improve compliance and hearing test results. Prior experience working in an audiology department is desired but not essential, as full training will be provided.
There are three sites from which clinics are held: Watford, St. Albans, and Hemel Hempstead. The post holder will be expected to cover clinics at all three sites as needed; therefore, a full, valid driving license and access to a car to use regularly for business purposes is essential (unless you have a disability as defined by the Equality Act 2010).

Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will:
- Be the second tester in children’s hearing assessment clinics aged 8months-18years
- Manage stock in the department, across sites
- Communicate effectively with service users and other members of the team
- Engage in peer reviews
- Engage in audits and clinical governance tasks to ensure the department is continuously improving
- Assist the Audiology Service Lead in the day-to-day management of the service
- Use Excel, Word, Teams, and other programs as needed to support the job role

Qualifications and Training
Essential
- Good oral and written skills
- Numerate and Literate, educated to GCSE level in Maths and English (or equivalent)
- Experience of working with computers

- Desire to gain additional qualifications
- Knowledge of childhood health conditions
Experience and Knowledge

- Experience of working with young children
- Experience of working in multi-disciplinary settings
- Experience of working independently, without direct supervision
- Knowledge of safeguarding for children

- Experience of working within an NHS healthcare setting
