The Nuclear Medicine Department at Barts Health carries out in excess of 10000 imaging investigations at three sites on five SPECT-CT and two PET-CT cameras. It also offers a full suite of in-vitro tests and supports a wide range of nuclear medicine therapy services. We are looking for an enthusiastic and highly motivated Nuclear Medicine Physics Assistant to join our friendly, dedicated team at Barts Health. It is an exciting time to join the department, with several substantial service developments currently in progress across the facility. You will contribute to a variety of areas within the Nuclear Medicine Physics service. This is an excellent opportunity to gain experience in a busy department and develop your scientific and clinical skills in a challenging but rewarding job

Main duties of the job

The Nuclear Medicine Physics Assistant will provide technical and administrative support to the Nuclear Medicine Physics Team, assisting with the provision of high standard scientific and technical service to Nuclear Medicine and PET/CT. This will include support in quality assurance measurements on imaging and other radiation detecting equipment, assistance in the running of the radionuclide therapy service to the Trust and assistance in compliance with legislation.If you are interested in embarking on a career in Nuclear Medicine Physics, we would love to hear from you. Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • BSc (Hons) or equivalent in physics or containing a major physics component

Desirable

  • MSc in radiation or medical physics or other relevant subject

Experience

Essential

  • Project work involving practical experience of measurement, data analysis and report presentation
  • Previous work or training experience in a science, technology or engineering environment
  • Computer programming
  • Experience in Microsoft 365 applications

Desirable

  • Experience of working with a quality management system
  • Experience with a range of radiation detectors and ability to interpret measurements

Knowledge

Essential

  • Good knowledge of underlying physics principles at degree level
  • Knowledge of a programming language or computer coding
  • Statistical analysis

Desirable

  • Understanding of hazards posed by, and precautions needed with: oIonising radiation, including radioactive isotopes oInfection Control
  • Understanding of key relevant legislation : IRR2017, IR(ME)R 2017 and EPR2016
  • Experience with databases
  • Experience with electronic patient information systems

Skills

Essential

  • Able to receive, provide and interpret data and draw pertinent deductions
  • Proficient in Excel and other Microsoft applications for analysis and presentation
  • Effective verbal and written communication to different staff groups within the hospital
