Description

• The Multi Skilled Engineer is responsible for maintaining, repairing, and upgrading manufacturing plant, machinery, equipment, and site services at Nature’s Way Foods in Chichester, West Sussex.

• The role involves ensuring that production equipment operates safely, efficiently, and reliably to support the continuous manufacture of high-quality fresh food products.

• The position requires applying electrical and/or mechanical engineering knowledge to diagnose faults, prevent equipment breakdowns, improve maintenance processes, and maintain food safety and Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) standards.

• The engineer works closely with the engineering and production teams to minimise downtime, improve operational performance, manage maintenance resources, and ensure compliance with health and safety requirements.

Responsibilities

• Carry out day-to-day maintenance, repairs, and upgrades of plant, machinery, equipment, and site services.

• Diagnose equipment faults and implement timely, effective repairs to minimise production downtime.

• Complete planned preventative maintenance (PPM) activities and develop improved maintenance procedures.

• Use engineering systems and processes effectively to support maintenance operations.

• Ensure all engineering work complies with food safety, health, and safety requirements.

• Maintain and improve product quality, hygiene, and GMP standards.

• Monitor engineering stock, control costs, and complete shift paperwork and reports.

• Track shift performance metrics and escalate significant issues to engineering management.

• Identify inefficient processes, take initiative, and implement improvements.

• Ensure plant, equipment, and operating systems are designed and maintained for safe operation.

• Collaborate with colleagues across engineering and other departments to maintain efficient production operations.

Requirements

• A minimum Level 3 Engineering NVQ or an equivalent engineering qualification.

• A good understanding of electrical or mechanical engineering, or both, with a willingness to undertake further learning and development.

• Previous manufacturing experience is preferred.

• Strong analytical, numerical, and problem-solving skills.

• Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

• Good teamwork and collaboration skills.

• Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to explain technical engineering issues to other departments.

• Computer literacy and knowledge of Computerised Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS).

• Ability to follow engineering procedures, maintain accurate records, and comply with food safety and health and safety standards.
