Based within the Croft Wing at Warrington Hospital, the department forms part of a maternity service rated Good by the CQC (January 2024) and provides care for approximately 2,600 births annually.
The department offers a comprehensive range of benign and complex gynaecological surgery. Most hysterectomies are performed laparoscopically, supported by advanced laparoscopic services across Warrington and Halton Hospitals. Additional procedures include outpatient hysteroscopy, NovaSure endometrial ablation and MyoSure tissue removal.
Gynaecological cancer services are delivered in collaboration with Liverpool Women’s Hospital, supported by weekly multidisciplinary meetings and specialist nursing teams. Complex endometriosis cases are referred to regional tertiary centres.
The successful candidate will join a motivated consultant team, sharing responsibility for obstetric and gynaecology services while contributing to clinical governance, audit, teaching, training, supervision of junior doctors and ongoing service improvement.
Main duties of the job
The department welcomes applications from candidates who would be interested in a Locum Consultant Obstetrician & Gynaecologist to provide maternity cover until 31st March 2027, while supporting the Trust’s elective recovery programme and continued delivery of high-quality gynaecology services.

The successful candidate will provide comprehensive obstetric and gynaecological care, contribute to service improvement, supervise junior medical staff, and participate in audit, quality improvement, clinical governance, and departmental leadership activities.
The role comprises 10 Programmed Activities (PAs), and in addition there may be an opportunity to do out of hours on-call 1:11 frequency with prospective cover.
Shared office accommodation, dedicated secretarial support, and operational support from the Clinical Business Unit (CBU) Manager are provided

Qualifications
Essential
- Full GMC registration
- MRCOG or appropriate specialist qualification
- Relevant CCT or equivalent (‘equivalence’ must be confirmed by PMETB/GMC by date of AAC)
- Entry onto the GMC Specialist Registrar or eligibility for entry within 6 months of the date of AAC
- Evidence of specialist training RCCOG ATSM/SITMS in Gynaecology
