The Endodontic Service is seeking a substantive part-time (4 PA) Consultant to join a dynamic, enthusiastic and forward-thinking team. The department is currently involved in many exciting initiatives and is looking for an individual with appropriate skills to complement this team and help keep the service at the forefront of clinical and academic excellence.
The post will be based at Guy’s Hospital at Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust. However, it is a requirement of your employment that you be prepared to work at any additional or different location owned or served by the Trust, either on an ongoing or temporary basis according to the demands of the service.

Main duties of the job
- To provide clinical leadership in Endodontics for GSTFT
- To provide service in Endodontics at GSTFT in accordance with Trust guidelines and strategy of both GSTFT and strategy of KCL FoDOCS.
- To participate in clinical and other service activities with the object of ensuring a high standard of patient care.
- To fully engage with the non-clinical management and administrative duties expected of an NHS endodontic consultant.
- To take an active part in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and training.
Person Specification
Professional Qualifications
Essential
- Full GDC registration
- Registered specialist in Endodontics
- CCST in Endodontics or within 6 months of CCST.
Desirable
- Higher academic degree related to Restorative Dentistry, such as an MSc, PhD, etc
- One or more of the following or equivalent qualifications: FDS RCS MFDS RCS
Clinical Experience and Skills
Essential
- Experience/training such that the applicant has reached at least the standard considered equivalent to that expected 3 years of full time specialist training in Endodontics.
- Experience in the multi-disciplinary management of patients.
- Able to manage patients with advanced needs, which interface with other disciplines e.g. head and neck cancer patients requiring endodontic treatment.
- Be able to treat patients with advanced needs within endodontics.
Desirable
- Level 2 CBCT trained – able to prescribe, justify, interpret and report on CBCT scans for endodontics.
- Experience in digital endodontics.
Audit Management & IT
Essential
- An understanding of clinical governance and risk management in the secondary care setting
- Management skills and effective leadership for the NHS environment and specifically clinical service delivery
- Effective participation in audit including implementation of outcomes
- Appropriate IT skills
Research / Teaching Skill & Experience
Essential
- Experience of organisation and clinical supervision of postgraduate and undergraduate teaching in endodontics.
- Able to appraise the scientific literature critically
- Able to apply evidence-based practice to clinical care
- Knowledge of research ethics
Desirable
- Evidence of teaching courses and/or teaching qualifications
- Evidence of publications in refereed journals
- Experience of undertaking and organising clinical research.
- Presentations at national research meetings
Leadership & Management Skills
Essential
- Ability to communicate with clarity and intelligence in written and spoken English; ability to build rapport, listen, persuade/ negotiate
- Ability to take responsibility, lead, make decisions and exert appropriate authority
