This is an exciting opportunity for a Band 4 Nurse Practitioner / Nurse Associate to join a dynamic, motivated team of renal nurses who deliver a high standard of specialist care to outpatients attending for kidney dialysis treatment. You will be working in a friendly and supportive environment and will be supported and trained under the supervision of our experienced renal team. We currently have 24 stations running 3 shifts a day (07:00 – midnight) Monday to Saturday. The unit is closed on Sundays. Applicants will work a mix of shifts, including short and long days and twilight shifts.

Applicants must have completed, as a minimum, the Level 3 Health & Social care Diploma (or equivalent) and will be required to undertake the Level 5 Assistant Practitioner diploma (or equivalent) if they do not currently hold either the Level 5 Health and Social Care Diploma or Nurse Associate qualification.

International Dialysis Technician qualification accepted.

Full training given.

Applicants will have worked in a hospital setting for a minimum of 12 months and have experience in acute patient care.

Main duties of the job

The Dialysis Assistant will function at a higher level of competency than that of other healthcare assistants. They will have responsibility for actively participating as part of a multidisciplinary team, with proximal supervision from a registered nurse, in providing a holistic renal replacement therapy to our dialysis patients.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Foundation Degree or equivalent
  • Successfully completed a period of local training and has been assessed using the directorate dialysis competency pack for haemodialysis

Experience

Essential

  • Be able to demonstrate own duties to less experienced staff

Knowledge

Essential

  • Have a sound knowledge of renal replacement therapies in order to assess the patients’ condition and adjust treatment as necessary in relation to dialysis therapies

Skills

Essential

  • Good communication skills
  • Basic computer skills, including email, PAS, and renal proton systems
  • Good organisational skills
  • Ability to prioritise own workload

Other

Essential

  • Maintain responsibility for the identification of one’s own continuing educational needs, including attendance at the trust’s annual mandatory training updates
  • Caring and compassionate
  • Supportive to patients/carers and members of the multi-disciplinary team
  • 2 Act as a role model by upholding and implementing good practice in the workplace
