An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Community Learning Disability Nurse to work within Nottingham City.

The Intellectual Disabilities Service, Specialist Services Directorate provides specialist NHS services to people for whom mainstream services cannot meet their needs. We are seeking a Nurse to join our well-established Community Nursing Team.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate must be an RNLD with a Diploma or Degree level in Learning Disability Nursing and be registered with the NMC.

You will be a highly motivated team player able to demonstrate a high level of professional competence. You will be expected to work autonomously and be responsible for your own caseload. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are essential. The post requires close work with patients, carers, external agencies and other health and social care professionals. As part of a team, you will be expected to contribute to care plans alongside the risk management plans.

You must have the ability to analyse and assist in making decisions regarding client risk and support in complex cases.

You will be required to manage a busy caseload and carry out relevant physical and mental health assessments.

You will participate fully as a multidisciplinary team member working in partnership with social care and voluntary/independent sector providers. You will provide holistic advice and health education to service users, their carers and community support agencies. The post holder must be able to demonstrate awareness of current issues and legislation affecting people with Intellectual Disabilities.

The role requires access to a vehicle and essential car user status.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Professional Qualification (Learning Disabilities) to degree level or equivalent
  • Maintains current registration with the NMC
  • Further specialist knowledge/post registration experience in specific service area or other formal training.

Desirable

  • Demonstrates continued professional development to maintain professional registration

Experience

Essential

  • Demonstrates satisfactory clinical expertise for the banding
  • Specialist and area-specific experience.

Desirable

  • The ability to deal with and resolve conflict.

Skills

Essential

  • Ability to work as part of a team
  • Good written/oral communication skills
  • Diplomatic, caring and sympathetic
  • Ability to be flexible and handle conflict issues
  • Good skills in assessment, intervention and evaluation of nursing care needs

  • A high level of emotional intelligence

Training

Essential

  • Willingness to undertake new clinical practices, education and training that will enhance service delivery

  • Knowledge and understanding of current legislation and understanding of clinical risk assessments
  • Knowledge of the nursing 6 c’s

  • Awareness of national and local issues impacting of nursing care
  • Knowledge of management theories.

Contractual Requirements

Essential

  • A full UK driving licence and vehicle for business use is required for this post; however reasonable adjustments will be made for disabled individuals in line with the Equality Act 2010.
  • Ability to work to meet the needs to the service (including unsocial hours and bank holidays).
