This post gives a valuable insight into the role of the Clinical Nurse Specialist.
We are looking for a skilled nurse with an understanding of caring for patients with colorectal cancer, who is enthusiastic, motivated, proactive and autonomous in their practice. We are committed to providing a high-quality service and a supportive educational environment conducive to learning, which will ensure a good foundation for future practice.
The successful candidate will be fully supported by the Senior Colorectal Nurses. You will be involved in multi-varied caseloads, working independently and as part of a specialised team, nurse-led initiatives, promotion of best practice, self- care and empowerment for patients and their families.
Main duties of the job
- To act as a key worker; delivering evidence-based, personalised care through holistic assessment, care planning and evaluation of care through the running of nurse-led clinics for patients from diagnosis, through treatment and follow-up. This might be via a clinic, inpatient or remote follow-up setting.
- To work at an enhanced level to plan and provide clinical care and psychological support to patients with a cancer diagnosis who have complex needs.

Qualifications
Essential
- Relevant teaching Qualification
- State registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Council.
- Demonstrates evidence of ongoing professional development
- Diploma/Degree in relevant area or evidence of study to that level
Desirable
- Post-registration training preferably in cancer/palliative care.
- Advanced Communication skills training
Skills and experience
Essential
- Experience working with colorectal patients
- Experience in CNS role
- Evidence of relevant clinical experience at Band 5 preferably in Oncology
- Thorough up-to-date knowledge of nursing theory and best practice particularly within the speciality area
- Working knowledge of primary care, team nursing and reflective practice
- Leadership management experience

- Qualifications/ training in colorectal speciality
