We are pleased to offer an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated individual to join our friendly and dynamic team and develop their career as a Sonographer. The successful applicant will undertake a CASE-accredited Post Graduate Certificate in Medical Ultrasound through a well-structured and full-time training programme that consists of a blend of academic study days at the university and clinical placement within the Whipps Cross Hospital ultrasound department. The Sonographers within the ultrasound department are an experienced and supportive team who will work to facilitate your learning. You will also be assigned a supervisor who, alongside the Clinical Lead Sonographer and NEL Sonography Practice Educator (subject to funding), will regularly assess your progress and discuss learning objectives with you throughout the training period.

Main duties of the job

Upon successful completion of the Post Graduate qualification and an agreed set of link grade competencies, you will move into a Band 7 Sonographer post at the Trust; however, you will be required to attain these within the necessary timeframe (12 months for a PgCert). As a newly qualified Sonographer, you will be supported through a preceptorship programme, following which you will work autonomously within your scope of practice and be expected to participate in the delivery of a high-quality ultrasound service.

Our team of Sonographers is encouraged to rotate through all areas and offer a comprehensive range of ultrasound examinations, including gynaecology, general abdominal, DVT, and small parts. We actively encourage and support CPD and role development in areas such as MSK, paediatrics, head and neck, neonatal hips, cranial and carotid ultrasound.

The successful candidate is required to be able to demonstrate the Trust’s values. In particular, you should have excellent patient, teamwork, and communication skills, and a compassionate and positive work attitude. Any offers made to successful candidates will also be subject to normal employment checks and a successful application to the university course.

All applicants must hold a 2:1 or above undergraduate degree in a relevant science/health care field, already hold UK statutory registration with a regulatory body such as the HCPC or NMC, and have post-registration experience in their clinical field of expertise.
