We are seeking a motivated, professional, and enthusiastic practitioner to join our well-established, friendly, and successful team of Master ‘s-qualified Advanced Clinical Practitioners. We are very sociable, love the outdoors, and enjoy the benefits of coastal living.

As a qualified member of the surgical team, you will be expected to manage and support pre-operative and post-operative care under the supervision of a senior surgeon.

As an Advanced Clinical Practitioner within our team, you will work closely with Consultant Surgeons, providing expert clinical care and advanced practice. You will demonstrate autonomy in patient assessment, diagnosis, and management, supported by defined competencies and trust protocols. Your role will also encompass leadership, education, research, and quality improvement to enhance patient outcomes and service delivery.

This opportunity is open to qualified Advanced Clinical Practitioners, trainee Advanced Clinical Practitioners with an interest in Cardiothoracic and allied health professionals who would like to train to become Advanced Clinical Practitioners with the relevant qualifications to train.

This is a post for a qualified or trainee position, with the Banding reflecting experience and qualification. Applicants should be able to demonstrate level 7 education or relevant demonstrable experience at this level within the past 3 years.

Main duties of the job

  • Once qualified as an Advanced Clinical Practitioner, you will be a dynamic, driven practitioner with advanced clinical expertise and a passion for continuous improvement in surgical services. You will adapt and thrive in a collaborative environment and demonstrate leadership in practice, education, and research.
  • To participate in pre and post-operative care of surgical patients, with particular attention to the appropriate workup of patients and the establishment of effective pathways for complex procedures, wound care, wound healing, and the prevention of infection in surgical wounds.
  • Deliver advanced perioperative and postoperative care with a focus on complex surgical pathways.
  • Lead on clinical governance activities, including audit and research.
  • Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to optimise patient pathways and ensure adherence to cancer waiting times where appropriate.
  • Provide mentorship and education to junior staff while maintaining a high standard of patient-centred care.
  • To be an expert clinical practitioner, ensuring patients receive high-quality clinical care whilst undertaking defined invasive procedures, utilising specialist knowledge and skills.

Knowledge & Experience

Essential

  • Extensive demonstrable experience within a speciality or clear identification of transferable skills based on extensive demonstrable experience in another field.
  • Influencing policy and clinical guidance
  • Recent demonstrable experience in clinical audit and quality improvement
  • Proven evidence of practice in line with the HEE (2017) multi-professional framework, management ability, and leadership experience
  • Demonstrable experience in education and supervision
  • Excellent clinical and practical skills

Desirable

  • Change management skills
  • Appraisal skills
  • Implementing policy and clinical guidance
  • Multi-professional supervision

Qualifications

Essential

  • Master’s Degree in Advanced Practice or equivalent (as defined by Trust AP policy)
  • Statutory Professional Registration.
  • Significant contribution to a Portfolio of Evidence
  • Advanced Life Support/ (or Paediatric/Neonatal Life Support if applicable)

Desirable

  • Management package of an instructor on life support courses
  • Education/Mentorship/ Supervision Course
  • Leadership course
  • Independent non-medical prescribing

  • Ability to manage own case load, working to priorities and deadlines
