Qualifications and training

Essential

• A diploma level 3 or above in Youth Work (JNC) or a Youth Work qualification at level 3 or above, alongside significant knowledge of youth work theory and practice, and significant youth work experience including leading projects/teams
• Evidence of continuous professional development

Desirable

• Membership/registration with a youth worker group
• Training relevant to area of work e.g. youth participation, professional boundaries, risk management, advanced communication skills, Mental Health First Aid

Knowledge and Experience

Essential

• Experience of working with young people in a youth work setting or equivalent
• Experience of working with vulnerable young adults, considering any safeguarding issues
• Awareness of safeguarding law and effective disclosure management
• Clear understanding of personal accountability, especially regarding non-hospital-based working
• Experience working within a multidisciplinary team
• Basic understanding of cancer services within the NHS/healthcare setting
• Demonstrate an understanding of health promotion
• Knowledge of the National Youth Agency’s ethical and professional code

Desirable

• Experience of working with young people, preferably in a health or social care setting, or with complex health needs
• Budget management experience
• Experience in undertaking risk assessment
• Basic knowledge of cancer-related medical terminology
• Experience in project work involving youth participation/engagement
• Experience of organising and running a range of youth-focussed activities, including residential and non-residential group and peer support activities
