The Radiotherapy Service in Truro is looking for Therapeutic Radiographers with a professional manner, high personal standards, and drive. The department has a wide bore CT scanner with contrast and 4DCT, two-beam matched Truebeam linear accelerators with cone beam CT, SGRT, 6DoF couches, 4D CBCT & electron facilities, and a Superficial Treatment Unit.

In addition to this, the service runs Radiographer-led clinics involving prostate support, on-treatment review, late effects, and follow-up clinics. We are looking for someone to work within the pre-treatment and treatment teams during this exciting time of continued service development across all areas.

Applicants must have a high level of technical competence, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, be self-motivated and hardworking, with a positive can-do attitude. The ability to remain calm under pressure and to integrate well with the existing teams are essential attribute of any applicant.

Hours of work may be flexible and will reflect the needs of the Service. Radiotherapy treatment is routinely delivered with shifts between 7.30am and 6.00pm, Monday to Friday, and some shift working is required on Service days until 8pm.

Main duties of the job

  • As part of the team, you will be responsible for the accurate delivery of radiotherapy and the management and supervision of patients through the review, pre-treatment, and treatment processes.
  • Responsible for maintaining the highest professional standards in the care and treatment of patients undergoing radiotherapy in line with nationally and locally agreed standards.
  • Responsible for the accurate pre and post-processing of treatments/checking, and interpretation of treatment plans and prescriptions.
  • Responsible for the calculation of v-sim treatments and checking the correct data entry on the treatment computer.
  • Responsible for the safe use of highly complex and expensive equipment.
  • Responsible for ensuring that junior members of staff and students are trained appropriately and follow departmental procedures.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • HCPC Registration
  • BSc in Radiotherapy or DCR(T)- Diploma of the College of Radiographers or equivalent
  • IELTS Level 7 (for those applying internationally)

Desirable

  • Further education or short courses

Experience

Essential

  • Post-diploma/graduate experience
  • Able to work on own initiative

Desirable

  • Experience of working on TrueBeam Linear Accelerators
  • High level of technical competence
  • Experience using SGRT
  • Evidence of project work
  • Worked in an NHS environment

Skills

Essential

  • Fully completed application form with attention to detail
  • Excellent communication skills, listening, verbal, and non-verbal.
  • Ability to teach, train, and motivate others.
  • Awareness of IR(ME)R regulations

Desirable

  • Academically committed.
