Psychological Well-being Practitioners provide assessment, triage, treatment, and mental health promotion activities within primary care and community settings, for people experiencing common mental health problems in the self-management of their recovery. Treatment programmes are designed to aid clinical improvement and social inclusion – including return to work and meaningful activity or other occupational activities, with the aim to enable service users to manage their own difficulties and reach their maximum potential.

PWPs do this by providing information and support for evidence-based low-intensity psychological interventions. These interventions place a greater emphasis on patient self-management and are less burdensome than traditional psychological treatments. Examples include guided self-help, which may be delivered via face-to-face or telephone sessions, and computerised cognitive-behavioural therapy.
