Job Summary
Our mission is to provide safe, individualised care and treatment for detained in-patients who are in a disturbed phase of a serious mental disorder or have complex risk and other longer-term needs.
We are seeking to recruit an enthusiastic and innovative person to take up the post of Life Skills Recovery Worker Band 4 on Woodberry at Wolfson House and Stratford, Shoreditch, Broadgate, Westferry, and Bow wards at John Howard Centre. This is a fantastic opportunity to actively form therapeutic, meaningful relationships with patients using a range of interventions/activities to enhance their care and improve their inpatient experience. As a Life Skills Recovery Worker, you will assist in the provision of outstanding recovery-focused care as part of the nursing team and wider multi-disciplinary team.
Main duties of the job
- Coordinate and facilitate activities for the patient
- Promoting a safe environment of care that safeguards and protects patients and staff against undue risk.
- Facilitating a positive role for patients where open communication and opportunities for learning and decision-making are promoted.
- As a Life Skills recovery Worker, you will assist in the provision of outstanding recovery-focused care as part of the nursing team and wider multi-disciplinary team.

Education/ Qualification/ Training
Essential
- GCSE Grade A-C in Maths & English or skills level 2 Maths & English or equivalent
Experience
Essential
- Work experience relevant to the post, working within a multidisciplinary team environment, experience of working in a multi-cultural environment
- Working within a multidisciplinary team environment
- Managing challenging and aggressive behaviour
- Experience of working in a multi-cultural environment and knowledge of methods to develop culturally sensitive practice
- Experience of providing and receiving complex, sensitive information
Knowledge and Skills
Essential
- Knowledge of when to seek advice and escalate to the appropriate professional for expert help and advice
- Understanding of the importance of following procedures and treatment plans
- Good verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to assess, plan, implement, and monitor care
- Able to work systematically and objectively in an environment with patients who can present a high risk
- Able to manage time so that deadlines are met. Ability to recognise stress
- Able to work sensitively and compassionately with patients
- Awareness of supervision and reflective practice. Able to identify and act upon critical deterioration of patient conditions

- Understanding of de-escalation
