An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Family & Systemic Psychotherapist (Band 7) with generic CAMHS experience to work within a multi-disciplinary team in Harrow CAMHS. This is a part-time permanent post and is part of a well-established systemic discipline where professional development and innovative work is actively encouraged. Harrow CAMHS is a very dynamic & friendly service which welcomes new skills and new ideas. It is part of the Central & North West London (CNWL) Foundation Mental Health Trust. We are committed to collaborative multi-disciplinary work, and there are very good links with partnership agencies in the borough. The post will be supervised by the Lead Family & Systemic Psychotherapist in Harrow Tier 3 CAMHS and line managed by the Principal/ Lead Systemic and Family Psychotherapist.

Harrow is a culturally diverse borough and we are keen to provide culturally appropriate services to families. We are looking for an enthusiastic systemic therapist who has a good amount of CAMHS experience and is able to integrate quickly into a busy CAMHS team.

Main duties of the job

  • Provide family assessments of children and young people referred to the team based upon the appropriate use, interpretation, and integration of complex data from a variety of sources.
  • Formulate and implement Care plans for the treatment and/or management of the child/young person’s problems, based upon an appropriate conceptual framework, and employing methods based upon evidence of efficacy, across the full range of care settings
  • Be responsible for implementing a range of family therapy. interventions for individuals, carers, families, and groups, within and across teams, employed individually and in synthesis, grounded in the principles and techniques of systemic and family therapy. These will include long and short-term interventions as appropriate to need.
  • Evaluate and make decisions about treatment options, considering both theoretical and therapeutic models and highly complex factors concerning historical and developmental processes that have shaped the individual, family, or group.
  • To exercise autonomous professional responsibility for the assessment, treatment, and discharge of children and young people whose problems are managed by psychologically based standard care plans.
  • To undertake risk assessment and risk management.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • Post-graduate family therapy training to MSc level or equivalent.
  • UKCP registration as a family therapist

Desirable

  • Post-qualification training in addition to some CAMHS-related specialized work
  • Recent Safeguarding Children training
  • CYP IAPT training
  • Qualification in a core mental health or social welfare profession (e.g., social work, mental health nursing, psychology, occupational therapy) and significant post-qualification experience

Experience

Essential

  • Newly qualified, significant post-qualifying experience of working within a multidisciplinary team, and preferably a CAMHS team
  • Experience of working with complex cases
  • Experience of delivering systemic training to non-CAMHS professionals
  • Able to deliver parent training and groups
  • Experience in developing and delivering clinical training to colleagues

Desirable

  • Fluent in an additional language
  • Experience in supervising as a Family Therapist

  • Family and parenting work: Understands the need for and has experience of undertaking family and parenting work as part of CAMHS support

Mental Health Assessment

Essential

  • Mental Health emergency CAMHS assessment.

Specialist Competencies

  • Experience of running parenting groups (Triple P, Mellow, Webster-Stratton, etc) and other types of group work group such as multi-family groups

Administration and Record Keeping

Essential

  • Microsoft Office (Word, Excel): Able to use Word and Excel to write reports, analyse, and present basic data
  • Clinical Recording Systems Competent in the use of clinical recording systems such as SYSTMONE. Understands the process for keeping safe, secure, and relevant clinical records
  • Email and Communication: Able to use email to support effective communication in line with CNWL policy. Able to use Microsoft PowerPoint and other communication methods to support the delivery of high-quality, engaging training and presentations

  • European Computer

  • Use of COMMIT and other related CYP IAPT recording
