Job summary

Applications are invited for a Stroke Physician to join the team at Swansea Bay University Health Board after what has been an extremely challenging period for the NHS.

The Stroke workforce is currently being expanded to meet the future demands of the service, including the development of a Comprehensive Regional Stroke Centre (CRSC) based at Morriston Hospital. The post holder will be expected to contribute to the running of the Stroke Unit. Providing the post holder with opportunities for personal development, growth and a sense of belonging amongst the Stroke team.

The post holder will also be required to participate in the GIM on-call rota (1 in 20) and will have responsibility for post on-call ward rounds. Eventually, a dedicated 24/7 Stroke Rota for the Region is envisaged.

This will be a 10-session job plan (7 DCC; 3 SPA)

Main duties of the job

This is a replacement post joining a team of 5 consultants responsible for the provision of Stroke Services across SBUHB. We are looking for enthusiastic colleagues committed to improving the delivery of patient care. The post will join a team of 65 Consultant Physicians at Morriston Hospital responsible for the provision of acute and specialist medicine within Swansea Bay University Health Board.

You will participate in providing care for a 24-bed acute Stroke unit and a 28-bed stroke rehabilitation unit along with the existing consultant workforce on a rotational basis. In addition, you will support all aspects of stroke care. Morriston provides mostly acute stroke services for the Swansea and Neath Port Talbot area. The inpatient sub-acute stroke care and rehabilitation is provided in N&PT Hospital. All acute stroke patients from Swansea and most of those from the Neath Port Talbot area are admitted to Morriston Hospital via ambulance protocols or self-presentation to ED.

Qualifications

Essential

• Registered GMC
• Licensed to practise
• On Specialist Register with GMC

Desirable

• Relevant Higher Degree
• Teaching qualification/Higher qualification in medical education

Experience

Essential

• Evidence of progression to near CCT level, post CCT, or equivalent experience
• Significant clinical experience in the relevant specialty
• Evidence of working with management and clinical colleagues to improve a service
• Evidence of working with management and clinical colleagues to improve a service
• Evidence of teaching and training of post/undergraduate clinical staff
• Evidence of initiating, progressing and completing audit
• Experience of research in Medicine
