Description
-
Provide specialist psychiatric assessment, diagnosis and treatment for older adults experiencing mental health difficulties in community settings.

Join an established Community Mental Health Team covering Taunton and West Somerset.

Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary healthcare professionals to provide coordinated, patient-centred care.

Act as the Responsible Clinician for patients subject to Community Treatment Orders under the Mental Health Act.

Conduct Mental Health Act assessments, including assessments involving patients detained under Section 136.
-
Prepare Section 49 reports under the Mental Capacity Act when required.

Provide clinical leadership, professional guidance and advice to members of the mental health team.

Coordinate with inpatient teams to ensure safe and effective transitions between hospital and community care.

Contribute to service development and continuous improvements in patient care.

Participate in professional supervision, case discussions and cross-cover arrangements with consultant colleagues.

Follow Trust policies, agreed job plans and financial management requirements.
Requirements

Medical qualification: Relevant medical degree and specialist psychiatric training.

GMC registration: Full registration with the General Medical Council (GMC), including a licence to practise.

Specialist registration: Must be on the GMC Specialist Register or eligible for entry within six months of interview through CCT or CESR.

Mental Health Act approval: Must hold Approved Clinician and Section 12 approval, or be eligible and willing to apply.

Relevant experience: At least three years of supervised training in an appropriate ST4βST6-equivalent programme, or equivalent experience through CESR.

Older persons psychiatry: Significant experience assessing and managing older adults with mental health conditions in community settings.

Legal knowledge: Understanding of the Mental Health Act and Mental Capacity Act and how they apply to community psychiatric care.

Clinical leadership: Ability to guide multidisciplinary teams and contribute to service development.

Communication skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues, patients and other professionals.

Professional development: Commitment to continuing professional development and peer supervision.

Additional desirable qualifications: MRCPsych, a master’s degree, further professional qualifications, or accreditation to train junior doctors and higher trainees.

Additional desirable experience: NHS or comparable specialist experience, leadership training, organisational development, and service improvement.

Background checks: Satisfactory Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) checks.
