The postholder will be expected to work across the Black Country but will be based within Wolverhampton
We have an exciting opportunity for a support worker to join our MHST in the Black Country. This is a new post which will support the qualified practitioners within the team with a whole-school approach, including group activities, delivered within schools and colleges throughout the Black Country to those young people demonstrating need for support with their emotional health and wellbeing.
Main duties of the job
In addition to working directly with young people attending Reception through to Year 13, there is also an opportunity to support those who are homeschooled, on the emotional-based school avoidance pathway and at risk of exclusion. Parents and carers, as well as teaching staff within our education settings, are included within our whole school approach offer and support for them is provided through workshops, training and dedicated interventions.
Person Specification
Criteria
Essential
- NVQ Level 3 in a child-related field such as childcare, youth work etc or equivalent experience
- A minimum of two years’ experience of working with children and young people and their families in a mental health related setting
- Ability to demonstrate a general understanding of the education system
- Access to own transport. Able to move between education settings and Trust sites across the Black Country within reasonable time, not relying on public transport.
- Must have presenter skills and be able to talk widely to large groups of people
Desirable
- Psychology or other health/social care/youth related undergraduate degree.
- Has an understanding of the Mental Health Support Team In Schools working model.
