About the role
We are looking for a committed and compassionate Assistant Psychologist to join our growing Suffolk Perinatal Loss Pathway. This is a unique opportunity to gain specialist experience in perinatal mental health within a developing and innovative service that makes a lasting impact on women, birthing people, and families following perinatal loss.
What you’ll be part of
You will join a small, highly skilled and supportive team including a Clinical Psychologist, a Peer Support Worker, and specialist Maternity Bereavement Support Workers. Working together, you will deliver thoughtful, evidence-based assessments and psychological interventions to people experiencing complex emotional distress after loss.
Our team works countywide, with bases in Ipswich and Bury St Edmunds, and collaborates closely with the Suffolk Community Perinatal Team. You’ll benefit from weekly supervision from a qualified psychologist, strong MDT links, and opportunities to develop your clinical skills in a rich learning environment.
Main duties of the job
In this varied and rewarding role, you will:
- Deliver trauma-informed, psychologically grounded assessments and short-term interventions
- Draw on a range of models, including CBT, EMDR, CFT, and systemic approaches
- Support the collection of outcome measures and maintain accurate clinical databases
- Contribute to audits, service evaluation, and research as the pathway continues to evolve
- Participate in potential group work as the service grows

You will bring:
- A psychology degree (2:1 or above) and eligibility for Graduate Basis for Registration with the BPS
- Excellent communication, literacy, and numeracy skills
- A compassionate, reflective, and trauma-informed approach
- The ability to work flexibly across Suffolk (a car driver is essential)
