Family Independence Temporary Assistance Program (FITAP) – Provides short-term cash assistance to eligible low-income families with children. FITAP recipients are also eligible for Medicaid through the Louisiana Department of Health.

Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) – Provides monthly benefits to low-income households to assist them in purchasing the food they need for good health.

You can apply for the Louisiana DCFS in three ways: online, by print, and phone.

Step 1

Using your favorite browser, visit the DCFS website and fill out the online form OFS 4APP.

Step 2

Gather all the documents needed to verify the information written in your application. Click here to see the required documents.

Step 3

After submitting your application, call the DCFS Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., to interview over the phone. Unlike before, you no longer have to wait for a scheduled phone interview, saving you time.

Step 4

If you are required to perform a face-to-face interview, then you’ll have to schedule an appointment at any DCFS parish office.

Using your favorite browser, visit the DCFS website and download the online application. If you need the application to be sent to your mailing address, then you can contact DCFS customer service by emailing LAHelpU.dcfs@la.gov or by calling 1-888-LAHELP-U (888-524-3578)
