HMP Woodhill- Address HMP Woodhill, V2 Tattenhoe St, Milton Keynes, MK4 4DA
This role may be eligible for visa sponsorship for Skilled Workers, subject to eligibility and the UK Immigration Rules in place at the time of application.
Sponsorship is not assured, and applicants will need to ensure they have and are able to maintain the requisite Right to Work in the UK for the duration of their work.

Because of the security classification of this jail, you will be required to undertake a Counter-Terrorism Check (CTC screening). To complete the CTC vetting procedure, you will need to prove that you have been resident in the UK for the last 3 years. Applicants not meeting the residency criterion will not be eligible to take up a position at this facility. (see CTC section below)
About the Role
What a Wonderful Job. Done by someone of your standing. Prison officials help make a difference in prisoners’ lives and protect the public. If you have the integrity, abilities, and strength of character we’re looking for, this fast-paced role might be the start of a great career with us. Somebody like you. There is no such thing as a typical prison officer. Our police come from all areas of life, as do the offenders they work with. If you are a parent, a teacher, have worked in retail, the armed forces, or just feel like you are a natural people person, you will have the empathy, self-confidence, strong communication skills, and resilience we want.
Whatever the difficulties, you will make the time to develop constructive, positive, and professional connections with prisoners who may be at the lowest point in their lives. Teamwork is very important in this setting, so you will need to be fully committed to assisting your colleagues and understanding the necessity of functioning as one team to keep the prison, prisoners, and everyone who works here safe. You will be expected to work different shifts and some weekends
Career Experience
Excellent work.
In this extraordinary career, you will have the possibility to perform several distinct parts in a single day. One minute you are a peacekeeper, the next you are a counsellor or a teacher. You will work directly with prisoners in a unique situation, helping protect the public and have a good impact.
Eligibility Criteria
- To be a jail officer, you will need to:
- be 18 years old before you begin work
- meet the nationality requirements for the Civil Service (see the section on nationality below)
- Because it’s a physically active work, you will need to pass a medical and fitness assessment as part of the application process
- meet the required vision standard for both eyes (with or without corrective lenses)
- All those training as a jail officer must have a hearing to an acceptable standard (without the use of hearing aids) for safety reasons.
- Tattoos are allowed, even visible tattoos, as long as they are not perceived as disrespectful, discriminatory, aggressive or menacing in any way. Facial tattoos are normally prohibited, unless they are for cultural, religious, or medical reasons.
As this is a prison with a security status, you will need to get a Counter-Terrorism Check (CTC vetting). To complete the CTC vetting procedure, you will need to prove that you have been resident in the UK for the last 3 years. Applicants not meeting the residency criterion will not be eligible to take up a position at this facility. (see below CTC section)
Commute to Work
Some jail settings are in rural areas with poor public transport links, so a driving licence and own transport are an advantage but not a required prerequisite for the work (unless stated). Please note that shift start and finish times are defined, and it is your obligation to arrive at and leave from your place of work for the start of your shift promptly. Please note the location of this vacancy and your means of transport carefully before applying.
