Main duties of the job

University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust is delighted to offer opportunities to work with us in our Theatre Recovery department. We are looking for friendly, enthusiastic individuals to join our dynamic and highly skilled team. We welcome applications from Paediatric and Adult Registered Nurses and RODPs; specialist training will be given to enable all successful candidates to work across all areas of recovery.

We operate a 24/7 service

Our recovery team currently has around 107 WTE members of registered staff, from varying international backgrounds.

We have 45 beds and work across 6 recovery areas covering multiple specialities. Paediatric and Adult patients are cared for in these areas.

Our staff is recognised for their hard work and dedication in patient care, and the department has received multiple awards.

The successful candidates will be expected to cover a range of shifts, including early/middle/late/twilight and night shifts across 7 days a week.

Secondment opportunities are also available for this role.

Person Specification

Qualifications, knowledge, and experience

Essential

  • Registered nurse on the relevant part of the register
  • Degree or equivalent experience
  • Has the ability to assist in carrying out the transfer of a patient through the intraoperative phase of perioperative care, giving concise, accurate handover
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the skills required to support learners in practice and to create a positive learning environment.
  • Practices and promotes the use of evidence-based practice
  • Knowledge of current issues within the acute health service.
  • Understanding of personal accountability.
  • Aptitude for caring for the anaesthetised and/or acutely unwell patient.

Desirable

  • Experience of teaching and supporting learners in practice.
  • Relevant resus qualification, i.e., Immediate Life Support
  • Experience of working within a relevant care setting
  • Specialist theatre work-based learning course, or mentorship course, post-qualification.
  • Interest in research to promote good practice
