Job Summary
Would you like the opportunity to join an innovative Occupational Therapy Service? We are looking to recruit an Occupational Therapy Technician to join the Luton Community Mental Health Team.
In this role, you will support the Occupational Therapists by assisting with assessments and delivering interventions for adults experiencing mental health difficulties. You will be responsible for providing specialist Occupational Therapy interventions under the guidance and supervision of the OT team, while also working independently on a day-to-day basis across a variety of community settings.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will join a well-established, supportive multi-disciplinary team. Interventions will involve working collaboratively with service users and their carers to achieve agreed goals aimed at improving functional abilities across a range of daily activities, including self-care, work-related tasks, domestic activities, and leisure. The post holder must be able to travel independently across the county. A good understanding of the role of Occupational Therapy is preferred but not essential

- GCSE
- NVQ and/or B-tech in Care related skills
- Qualification in relevant practical skills
Experience
Essential
- Some experience working with people who have experienced mental illness
- Using a range of practical and creative skills
Desirable
- Worked with an occupational therapy team or MDT
- Experience of CPD and role development activities
Knowledge and Skills
Essential
- Basic understanding of needs and concerns of service users who have mental illness
- Basic understanding of OT and ability to learn about the OT process
- Interpersonal skills enabling therapeutic alliances to be developed and maintained with service users who have complex needs.
- Organisational and time management skills
- Ability to plan, prioritise and coordinate own time and plan tasks.
- Ability to contribute to and work within clinical risk assessment
- Ability to use own initiative and work alone at times
- Willing to take responsibility for administrative and departmental duties as necessary
- Willing to work as part of a team and share information
Other
Essential
- Physical skills required facilitating a wide range of activities, including using equipment as required
- Mental and emotional effort required to undertake concentration required for clinical consultations and interventions on both one-to-one and group basis.
- Full UK driving license and access to a vehicle
