Successful applicants will undertake a programme of learning through work experience, academic study and practice placements to become qualified and registered Occupational Therapists.

This position requires the post holder to be enrolled on the Occupational Therapy Degree Apprenticeship and working a minimum of 30 hours a week for the duration of the 30-month training programme. Occupational Therapy BSc (Hons) – Degree Apprenticeship

This vacancy is being advertised as an apprenticeship and as such the salary for the role if reflective of this (please see “Additional Information for Apprenticeship Candidates”). Those who currently hold and can evidence the essential qualifications need not apply. Your application will not be shortlisted if you hold the essential qualification(s).

Although English and Maths at level 2 is not required for the role, it is a requirement to complete the apprenticeship and need to be in place by the end of the apprenticeship. If you do not hold or cannot evidence English and Maths at level 2 then support will be provided for the successful applicant(s) as part of the Trust’s apprenticeship offer.

Main duties of the job

  • To ensure effective management of own workload within the specified clinical group, and for work delegated to other staff by prioritising activities, balancing patients’ needs with the demands on the team.
  • To ensure a good standard of assessment and treatment of own patients from a specified clinical group under the supervision of a registered practitioner.
  • To be responsible for communicating with the MDT to ensure effective and appropriate planning and delivery of treatment.
  • To ensure all documentation regarding their clinical involvement with patients adheres to Allied Health Professions (AHP) Service and Trust standards.
  • To be responsible for maintaining and developing current knowledge of evidence-based practice in the specified clinical area
  • To be responsible for risk assessment and appropriate action taken regarding risk
  • To be responsible for the safe use of equipment used and the security of departmental equipment.
  • To provide appropriate training and education to other staff including HCA’s or relatives or carers.

Person Specification

Qualifications, Specific Experience & Training

Essential

  • Must have or be working towards a foundation degree in Health and Social Care including knowledge of specific patient conditions, forms of therapy acquired through training and experience.
  • Significant experience as a therapy assistant in a health care setting.

Knowledge and Skills

Essential

  • Basic computer skills.
