Applications are invited to apply for a Locum Consultant in Obstetrics based at the Royal Derby Hospital for a 12-month Fixed Term contract to cover absence. 10 PA’s.

This post will be based at Royal Derby Hospital, but we expect flexibility for you to be able to work across all our sites should the need arise.

Main duties of the job

Provision, with consultant colleagues, of a service to Staffordshire, Derbyshire & surrounding areas, with responsibility for the diagnosis & treatment of patients at the hospitals & clinics at which you have duties; this may include clinics in community facilities.

Responsible for the continuing care and treatment of patients in your charge and personal performance of clinical duties as agreed in your job plan, allowing for all proper delegation to & training of your staff.

Provision of an out-of-hours service with consultant colleagues including on-call rota commitments. There may be an on-call component for residents, subject to departmental requirements.

Whole-time appointment with a work commitment of 10 PA’s per week, including a 1:20 on-call rota for Obstetrics

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • MRCOG or appropriate specialist qualification
  • Possession of relevant Postgraduate Qualification or equivalent
  • Any of the following ATSM or equivalent SSM/ SST/SITMs:?ATSM in Advanced Labour ward?ATSM in High-Risk Pregnancy?SITM in Fetal care?SITM in Pregnancy care
  • Full GMC registration with a licence to practice at time of application
  • Experience of working as an ST7 and above in the NHS

Desirable

  • Additional higher medical/scientific degree relevant to the specialty
  • Within 6 months of receipt of Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) at time of interview Entry onto the GMC Specialist Register or eligibility for entry by date of appointment committee If applying for Full GMC Registration & Licence to Practice simultaneously with a CESR application, supporting documentary evidence must be provided at interview, to confirm an application has been submitted & is under consideration by the GMC
  • ATSM/SITM: oMaternal Medicine oPrenatal Diagnosis oPremature Birth Prevention oSupportive Obstetrics

Management & Administrative Experience

Essential

  • Understanding of clinical risk within Obstetrics

Desirable

  • Attended a management course for consultants

Teaching Experience

Essential

  • Experience of & commitment to teaching undergraduates & postgraduates
  • Experience of supervising F1, F2, ST trainees

Desirable

  • Specific teaching qualification
  • Experience of teaching basic clinical skills to undergraduates
  • Attended a recognised teaching training course

Audit/Research Experience

Essential

  • Experience of & commitment to clinical audit

Communication

Essential

  • Experience of formal presentations
