- Location: Forest House Adolescent Unit, Radlett, Hertfordshire, UK.
- Contract: Permanent, part-time.
- The role is based in Forest House, a specialist inpatient psychiatric unit caring for young people aged 13–18.
- The unit has 16 beds, including provision for acute admissions.
- There is also provision for eating-disorder admissions under a dedicated specialist service.
- The successful consultant will work alongside another substantive consultant and a wider medical team, including Specialty Doctors, GP trainees and psychiatry trainees.
- Responsibilities include providing high-quality clinical care, supporting clinical governance, and contributing to the operational management of the service.
- The role involves close collaboration with a multidisciplinary team including psychiatrists, psychologists, mental-health nurses, psychotherapists, systemic therapists and social workers.
Requirements
- MB BS or equivalent medical qualification.
- Higher psychiatric qualification such as MRCPsych or an equivalent qualification approved by the Royal College of Psychiatrists.
- Full GMC registration with a licence to practise.
- CCT in Psychiatry, inclusion on the GMC Specialist Register, or being within six months of achieving CCT/CESR at interview.
- Section 12/Approved Clinician approval.
- Experience of the full range of clinical responsibilities expected of a consultant in child and adolescent psychiatry.
- Experience working with children and young people with complex mental-health needs.
- Experience collaborating with social care and other agencies.
- Strong clinical skills based on a bio-psycho-social approach.
- Good oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to manage clinical complexity and uncertainty and make evidence-based decisions.
- Experience using psychological therapies and working effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
- Knowledge and experience of safeguarding in child and adolescent mental health.
- Evidence of CPD, clinical audit, research/service evaluation, and the ability to teach undergraduate or postgraduate learners.
- A full valid driving licence and access to a car is listed as an essential requirement, unless the relevant disability exemption applies.
