Main duties of the job

The aims of NHCFT Health Psychology are to:o Promote the health, wellbeing and functioning of the population accessing NHCFT, by working with individual patients, families, and groups of patients. o Embed psychologically informed care by supporting healthcare teams and contributing to the systems work of NHCFT and our stakeholder partners. As well as providing assessment, formulation and psychological therapy for individual patients, Psychologists working in healthcare teams can help with:o Understanding the ‘constellation’ of influences upon health and wellbeing (H&WB).o Using this understanding to balance the established approach of diagnostic delineation, with approaches that better address the multiple contextual and systemic factors that can both impact upon and improve an individual’s H&WB.o In doing so, help shape an effective integrated approach to the provision of care, by supporting person-centred and psychosocial approaches across NHCFT pathways and systems.o Further develop the workforce and technology capabilities that are needed to deliver such holistic care, in a way that is more accessible to patients. In line with national guidance across healthcare specialisms, by working together with our teams in this way, the expected outcome will be:o patients at the heart of provision and re-configuring barriers, including the artificial separation of mental and physical health, health and social care and, parallel single-disease pathways.
