Based across Misterton and Wellington Learning Centres

As a Child and Family Support Worker within our CAMHS Therapeutic Education Service, you’ll play a vital role in supporting children and young people with complex mental health needs. Working as part of a skilled multidisciplinary team, you’ll help create opportunities for young people to thrive emotionally, socially and educationally.

This is a rewarding and varied role where no two days are the same. You’ll support children and young people within therapeutic education settings, family homes, foster placements and residential environments, helping them build resilience, confidence and the skills they need to succeed. Alongside this, you’ll provide practical and emotional support to families and carers, helping them navigate challenges and strengthen relationships.

Main duties of the job

  • Build positive, trusting relationships with children, young people and their families.
  • Support children and young people to engage in education, therapeutic interventions and everyday activities.
  • Work alongside clinicians and education professionals to deliver individual support plans and therapeutic interventions.
  • Assist with assessments and contribute to the development and review of care and education plans.
  • Provide practical, emotional and therapeutic support within schools, learning centres, homes, foster placements and residential settings.
  • Help young people develop emotional regulation, coping strategies, independence and resilience.
  • Work closely with parents, carers, schools and partner agencies to ensure coordinated support and positive outcomes.
  • Contribute to safeguarding, risk assessment and the ongoing wellbeing of children and young people.
  • Maintain accurate records and participate in multidisciplinary meetings, supervision and training.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • NVQ3, HNC/HND equivalent
  • GCSE English and Maths Grade C or above, or equivalent

Desirable

  • Care-related qualifications, i.e. NVQ, Social Work or Social Care, Nursing, Occupational Therapy
  • Evidence of recent relevant training

Experience

Essential

  • Previous experience in a mental health or social care setting
  • Previous work with children and young people, either directly/indirectly (or personal experience or providing care)

Desirable

  • Experience of undertaking assessments
  • Working with people in their own homes
  • Working with residential staff/Working alongside foster carers

Additional Criteria

Essential

  • Access to own private transport and have use of a car whilst at work to enable working in a county wide service.
