We are pleased to be recruiting four full-time Trainee Education Mental Health Practitioner (EMHP) posts to support service expansion within the Mansfield and Ashfield locality.

Successful candidates will undertake a fully funded one-year training programme with the University of Northampton, delivered via a hybrid model (combining in-person and online learning). Travel expenses for required university attendance will be supported.

Working arrangements include a mix of school-based work, office/base working, and home working.

The Mental Health Support Team (MHST) is an early intervention service supporting children and young people with mild to moderate mental health needs, including anxiety, low mood, emotional regulation, and sleep difficulties.

MHST works closely with Nottinghamshire CAMHS and education settings to deliver both direct interventions and a whole-school approach, promoting positive mental health and resilience.

This role includes completing a Postgraduate Diploma (CYP IAPT) in Evidence-Based Psychological Treatments.

Main duties of the job

  • As a Trainee Education Mental Health Practitioner (EMHP), you will work within a Mental Health Support Team (MHST) delivering early intervention support to children and young people with mild to moderate mental health difficulties, including anxiety, low mood, and behavioural challenges.
  • Under supervision, you will develop skills in assessing and delivering evidence-based interventions, mainly through guided self-help, within educational settings. You will manage a defined caseload, ensuring care is outcome-focused and responsive to individual need.
  • You will work closely with schools, including Senior Mental Health Leads and staff, to promote a whole-school approach to mental health, providing advice, consultation, and support to improve understanding and wellbeing.
  • The role involves collaborative working with children, families, and partner agencies to ensure coordinated care, including supporting onward referrals to specialist services where required.
  • You will contribute to workshops, drop-ins, and service feedback, supporting early intervention and access to care.
  • You will complete a Postgraduate Diploma (CYP IAPT), applying learning in practice alongside regular supervision. You will also maintain accurate records, support data collection, and follow Trust policies, including safeguarding and confidentiality.

Essential

  • To work flexibly about location and hours.
  • A full UK driving licence and vehicle for business use is required for this post; however, reasonable adjustments will be made for disabled individuals in line with the Equality Act 2010.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Proven record of previous academic attainment.
  • Ability to undertake the relevant CYP IAPT-approved training in Evidence-Based Psychological Treatment for Children and Young People (C&Y IAPT) with the associated University.
  • Registration with relevant professional body

Desirable

  • Educated to Degree level

Experience

Essential

  • Proven post-qualification experience of working in and with schools.
  • Experience of multi-agency work.
  • Skills and experience of working with children, young people and families around a range of emotional/mental health, behavioural and additional health or developmental needs.
  • Experience of teaching groups of professionals and parents.

Desirable

  • Evidence of the ability to use and provide clinical supervision.
  • Community experience, working in schools and with families.

Knowledge

Essential

  • Knowledge of relevant legislation and documents about children (e.g. Children’s Act, Mental Health Act, NSF, Every Child Matters, Future In Mind).
  • Knowledge and experience of provision of evidence-based emotional/mental health assessment.
  • Knowledge and experience of the provision of different models of therapy and interventions.
  • Ability to manage a defined caseload as required and participate in case management supervision.
  • Organise own work schedule.
  • Ability to maintain accurate case records in line with Trust policies and procedures.
  • Ability to be an autonomous practitioner whilst being able to work as an integral part of a multi-agency locality team.

  • Knowledge and application of behaviour programmes and support for parents of children with emotional health problems.

Skills

  • Qualification in therapeutic approaches with children and families e.g. CBT, systemic, solution focused, play therapy
