Coastal Sussex CAMHS Service has an exciting opportunity for a permanent Child and Adolescent Mental Health (CAMHS) Consultant Psychiatrist to join their locality team.
This is an exciting opportunity to play an integral part in prioritising the delivery of a safe, effective and caring service to those children and young people (0yrs-18yrs). Psychiatrists are integral to driving change and influencing service development. The Trust has ambitious aims to continuously improve for the good of our patients, and we welcome clinical and non-clinical views to achieve this together.
You will work as part of a friendly and supportive multidisciplinary team which includes nurses, psychologists, systemic family therapists and child psychotherapists. This post will work alongside other Consultants and Specialty Doctors who work in Sussex CAMHS. You will also be part of a Trust-wide Consultant network where there are opportunities to liaise with colleagues in other posts throughout the Trust and develop peer networks.
This job attracts aRecruitment and Retention payment of £45,000structured over a three-year period as follows:o£15,000 payable upon successful recruitmento£10,000 payable at 12 months’ serviceo£10,000 payable at 24 months’ serviceo£10,000 payable at 36 months’ service
Main duties of the job
The service we provide is in line with NICE Evidence-Based Treatment for those children and young people. You will provide high-quality specialist clinical assessments, including relevant psychiatric and physical investigations, to children, young people and their families in a range of settings, and work collaboratively with other members of the team to plan and deliver appropriate individually tailored treatment plans.
- To provide medical psychiatric assessment and intervention, including pharmacology and Mental Health Act assessments to CAMHS in Coastal West Sussex ( Chichester and Worthing Bases ), ensuring best quality and most effective psychiatric care, working within a multi-disciplinary team.
- To work as part of the multi-professional team providing high quality specialist CAMHS clinical advice, assessment and intervention to children and young people in the area in a range of settings.
- To engage families/carers in planning and provision of care.
- To provide timely advice and consultation to GP’s, social services and other referrers, facilitating appropriate access to services.
Person Specification
Qualifications/Eligibility
Essential
- MB BS or equivalent medical qualification
- Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practise at the time of appointment.
- Included on the GMC Specialist Register OR within six months.
- In good standing with GMC with respect to warnings and conditions on practice
- Approved clinician status OR able to achieve within 3 months of appointment
Transport

- Holds and will use a valid UK driving licence OR provides evidence of proposed alternative.
Clinical Skills, Knowledge & Experience
Essential
- Excellent knowledge in specialty
- Excellent clinical skills using a bio-psycho-social perspective and wide medical knowledge
- Excellent oral and written communication skills in English
Desirable
- Wide range of specialist and sub-specialist experience relevant to post within NHS or comparable service
Academic Skills & Lifelong Learning
