Job Summary
We are seeking an ambitious Band 5 Biomedical Scientist to join our busy, ISO-accredited Cellular Pathology laboratory. You will carry out core histology techniques, including embedding, microtomy, staining and slide assessment, contributing to accurate and timely patient diagnoses.
This post is ideal for newly qualified or early-career Biomedical Scientists looking to develop their skills within a supportive team. You will work alongside experienced colleagues and have access to ongoing training, CPD and quality improvement activities.
What we’re looking for: HCPC-registered Biomedical Scientist (or nearing completion of the IBMS Registration Portfolio), knowledge of core histology techniques, good communication and teamwork skills, and a commitment to high-quality, patient-focused laboratory practice
Main duties of the job
- Perform routine histology procedures, including specimen dissection, embedding, microtomy, staining and slide quality assessment.
- Operate, maintain and troubleshoot laboratory equipment in accordance with SOPs and quality standards.
- Participate in immunohistochemistry and other specialised techniques as required. Ensure accurate recording of results and use of the laboratory information management system (LIMS).
- Contribute to maintaining an ISO-15189 compliant quality management system, including audits, EQA participation and incident reporting.
- Follow all health and safety policies, risk assessments and laboratory protocols.
- Support workflow management to meet turnaround times and maintain efficient service delivery.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues, pathologists and multidisciplinary teams. Take part in training, competency assessments and continuing professional development activities.
- Provide support and guidance to trainee staff and laboratory assistants when appropriate.

Essential
- A Biomedical Science Degree or equivalent accredited by the IBMS.
- HCPC Registration as a Biomedical Scientist.
