Job Summary

The Associate Vascular Technician role supports the Clinical Vascular Scientists in meeting the departmental clinical and administrative needs.

They will be responsible for providing diagnostic tests and assisting patients undergoing Vascular Ultrasound.

They will also assist in the day-to-day running of the department, taking on administrative tasks alongside clinical ones to facilitate the smooth flow of patients attending the department.

Main duties of the job

  • To provide specialist physiological measurement (ABPI and TBPI) blood flow measurement skills to patients attending the Vascular Laboratory.
  • Be responsible for the day-to-day organisation of the caseload therein.
  • To have completed NWAFT wound care and dressing training and be able to remove/reapply wound dressings as and when required.
  • To work as a member of the multidisciplinary team, maintaining good communication with other members of the multidisciplinary team e.g., vascular surgeons, doctors, nurse practitioners, and allied health professionals.
  • To participate both formally and informally in the promotion of education and training to junior doctors, nursing staff, and other healthcare professionals in the principles and practice of non-invasive vascular assessment, namely ABPIs and exercise ABPIs.

Education and Qualifications

Essential

  • Educated to GCSE standard

Desirable

  • NVQ Level III

Experience

Essential

  • Previous experience within a clinical environment
  • Experience of wound care and wound dressings

Desirable

  • Practical experience of ABPI and TBPI
  • Experience of MDT participation

Knowledge

Essential

  • Knowledge of CRIS and PACS

Desirable

  • Knowledge of local NHS targets and initiatives
  • Knowledge of Trust electronic systems (Evolve, Epro, Carestream, E-track)

Key Skills

Essential

  • Accuracy & Attention to detail
  • Ability to communicate and relate information concisely to Clinicians and other Health Professionals
