As well as delivering a psychological service to the Powys Living Well Service, you will be expected to develop your skills working across the range of possible comorbidities.

Support for this will be provided.

Main duties of the job

Support and enhance the professional psychological care of clients requiring Advice, Support and Prehab as part of the Health Board’s Living Well Service, across all sectors of care, providing psychological assessment and psychological interventions, working independently according to a plan agreed with a qualified Psychologist and within the overall framework of the policies and procedures for the Powys Living Well Service.

Assist in clinically related administration, conduct of audits, collection of statistics, and development of audit and /or research projects, teaching, and project work.

Assisting a qualified Practitioner Psychologist, the Assistant Psychologist will be responsible for the psychological aspects of the multi-disciplinary/multi-agency care provided for adults.

Liaise with and provide an advisory service for a wide range of voluntary and statutory organisations.

The Assistant Psychologist’s time will be divided between clinical/administrative tasks and research/audit tasks as required.

Carry an agreed caseload. This work will be managed and assessed at weekly intervals by a qualified Practitioner Psychologist.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • An Honours Degree in Psychology graded at upper second class or above
  • Entitlement to graduate membership of the British Psychological Society

Desirable

  • Master’s degree in a relevant subject

Experience

Essential

  • Evidence of some formal teaching
  • Clinical supervision of practice
  • A thorough understanding of the needs and difficulties of people with mental health problems and other disabilities
  • Accurate use of complex psychological assessment tools
  • An ability to apply existing theoretical psychological knowledge to a mental and physical health context
  • An understanding of psychological theory applied to health care
  • Experience working with people in a relevant client group in a healthcare setting

Desirable

  • Experience using computers for databases, data analysis, and MS Teams
  • Experience of further paid work in direct care provision, ideally as an Assistant Psychologist or Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner

  • High standard of report writing
  • Excellent organisational skills and an understanding of working with multiple priorities
  • IT skills to a level required to work regularly with Microsoft Office packages and local specialist packages as required
  • High-level communication skills (written and verbal), including an ability to communicate and work in settings in which the atmosphere may be highly emotive
  • Ability to communicate highly complex and sensitive information to patients, carers, and colleagues in a way that addresses psychological resistance
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, including the ability to engage with clients experiencing a wide range of mental health problems
  • Ability to communicate diplomatically, confidently, and empathetically
  • Flexible approach to working, balancing academic and clinical demands
  • Ability to work autonomously and as part of a team
