The Emergency Practitioner training role is to support the qualified Emergency Practitioners in the assessment, treatment, and onward care planning for all patients presenting to the county-wide Minor Injury and Illness Units
The trainee practitioners are responsible for:
- The initial triage of presenting patients and ensuring patients remain safe while waiting for initial assessment in the absence of a band 5
- Implementation of Planned Care as determined by the Emergency Practitioner overseeing patient care.
- To support the Emergency Practitioner (EP) in the management and treatment of sometimes complex clinical consultations
- To develop skills and qualifications to enable them to work as a qualified autonomous Emergency Practitioner.
- Applicants must have a secured place with GHC on the APICA course that commences in September 2025/ February 2026.
Following successful completion and receipt of qualification of the APICA course, the successful applicant will move to a Band 6 Emergency Practitioner.
Main duties of the job
- To provide a timely triage service to all patients who attend the unit as per local and national guidelines
- To ensure intentional rounding is facilitated to maintain the safety of patients whilst waiting to be assessed and treated by the EP.
- To assist Emergency Practitioners with their assessment, provision of treatment, and discharge planning using local and national guidelines and pathways of care.
- To support the practitioner in charge with day-to-day planning, the delivery of a high-quality service, and the continuous improvement of the Minor Injury and Illness service
- Responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating care for patients in MIiU alongside the Emergency Practitioner to deliver a high standard of individualised care.
- Provide advice, including clinical advice, and support to the local community (including telephone advice), staff, and other disciplines.
- Treat all service users and carers with dignity and respect
- Participate in all aspects of the 6 C’s process
