The Pharmacy Homecare Service has an exciting opportunity to welcome a Band 7 Pharmacist into the team. The UK Pharmacy Homecare sector is growing rapidly, and the CUH pharmacy homecare team currently manages the supply of medicines directly to the homes of over 11,000 patients. We are looking for an organised, forward-thinking and motivated Pharmacist to join our dynamic team. This is an exciting opportunity to work with a highly specialised patient cohort and various clinical teams, including, to name a few, Rheumatology, Dermatology, Gastroenterology and Vasculitis. You will play a key role in the provision of specialist services: high-cost drugs, medicines optimisation and the management of clinical queries to help us to deliver and improve the quality of patient treatment and care. Maintaining the safe supply of medicines and treatment to patients’ homes. Homecare Pharmacy experience is not essential as full training will be given.
Main duties of the job
- To work as a Specialist Pharmacist in the Homecare team which provides a service to a variety of specialist clinical areas as part of the overall pharmacy service
- To pharmaceutically verify/clinically screen homecare prescriptions
- To deputise for the Lead Pharmacy Homecare Specialist
- To liaise with the relevant senior pharmacy, medical and nursing staff, other allied health professionals (AHP’s) and managers to promote safe, evidence-based and cost-effective use of homecare medicines

Qualifications
Essential
- Master’s level degree in pharmacy.
- Post-graduate foundation training (preregistration year).
- Registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council.
- Completed Certificate (Year 1) of Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy/General Pharmacy Practice or equivalent experience or willing to commit to postgraduate training.
Desirable
- Completed years 1 and 2 of Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy/General Pharmacy Practice)
- Diploma / MSc in Clinical Pharmacy (or equivalent)
- Qualified and registered as an Independent prescriber.
- Risk management training.
- Member of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society (or working towards)
Experience
Essential
- Moderate post-registration experience of working in a hospital or community pharmacy including prescription screening.
- Experience of managing a team or a pharmacy
Desirable
- Recent post-registration hospital experience, ideally including previous experience in a teaching hospital and experience of more than one hospital.
- Experienced clinical pharmacist who has covered a range of specialties.
- Evidence of having written pharmaceutical and/or educational publications.
- Experience as a personal tutor in a range of staff groups.
- Drug expenditure analysis and reporting.
- Horizon scanning.
- Ability to take initiative and lead on projects including change management.
- Experience of using pharmacy systems e.g. Epic
- Experience of writing reports/ business cases
- Evidence of having conducted a clinical audit
Knowledge
Essential
- Good clinical knowledge of drugs and therapeutic trends
- Knowledge of homecare services & The Hackett report
- Knowledge of NICE and NHS guidance and subsequent examples of local implementation
- Knowledge of healthcare systems and NHS change.
- Familiar with the use of a range of visual aids for teaching.
Desirable
- Knowledge of pharmacy procurement in the NHS
- Knowledge of formulary or NICE Technology Appraisals
