We are seeking six experienced and motivated Specialist Clinical Coders to join our dynamic Clinical Coding Department at Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust.

Main duties of the job

As a Specialist Clinical Coder, you will:

  • accurately abstract, analyse, and assign complex diagnostic and procedural codes using ICD-10 and OPCS-4 classifications
  • work closely with clinical teams to validate and enhance the quality of coded data
  • Take the lead on specific specialties and complex coding scenarios
  • Act as a mentor to junior coders and support their development
  • contribute to clinical engagement, KPI monitoring, audit preparation, and data quality improvement

Qualifications

Essential

  • Accredited Clinical Coding Qualification (ACC)

Desirable

  • ECDL

Experience

Essential

  • Substantial Clinical Coding expertise across all specialties and levels of complexity
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology

Skills

Essential

  • Ability to analyse and abstract complex records
  • Ability to resolve complex coding issues and aptly articulate resolutions
  • Able to identify data quality issues and coding workflow impediments and use sound intuition to resolve

Desirable

  • Working knowledge of SQL to interrogate data
