Job Summary
A permanent job opportunity has arisen for a band 7 radiotherapy physicist to join the friendly and dynamic radiotherapy physics team at the Royal Free Hospital. Either an HCPC-registered Clinical Scientist or someone eligible for registration within 6 months is encouraged to apply. The ideal candidates should be dedicated, communicative, and collaborative persons willing to participate in all aspects of the radiotherapy physics service.

Education & Professional Qualifications
Essential
- Honours first degree (1st or 2nd) in physics or containing a major physics component
- Relevant MSc or higher degree or equivalent level of knowledge.
- Registered Clinical Scientist with HCPC or eligible for membership within 9 months of the year.
- Corporate Membership of IPEM (MIPEM) or eligible for membership within 1 year
- IPEM graduate diploma in medical physics (DipIPEM) or equivalent, or successful completion of the MSC STP program in Radiotherapy Physics.
Desirable
- Chartered scientist (CSci) or eligible for the award
Experience
Essential
- Specialist theoretical and practical knowledge and experience of radiation dosimetry, patient dosimetry, treatment unit technology, treatment planning systems, quality assurance, dosimetry equipment, and computer systems in radiotherapy.
- Knowledge of clinical procedures and practices in radiotherapy.
- A broad understanding of patient and staff risks arising from equipment failure and staff error.
- Knowledge of radiotherapy techniques and clinical applications
- Understanding of hazards posed by, and precautions needed with: ionising radiation, non-ionising radiation, and electrical hazards.
Desirable
- Knowledge of applied radiation physics and associated areas within medical physics.

- Able to maintain frequent periods of prolonged concentration, with often unpredictable work patterns.

- Able to communicate highly complex information to other healthcare professionals and equipment manufacturers.

- Able to exercise own initiative when dealing with issues within own areas of competence.
- Ability to teach and train others, including other staff groups, on highly specialist subjects.
- Able to develop systems and write software and scripts relevant to computer systems supporting radiotherapy.

- High degree of physical accuracy and dexterity for making precision measurements and equipment adjustments using fine tools.
- Able to deal with occasional distressing circumstances (when working with terminally ill patients, for example).
Desirable
- Able to lift and move medium/heavy weights (beam data acquisition equipment and phantoms, for example).
