Job Overview

We are looking for a committed and caring Health Care Assistant / Activities Co-ordinator Band 3 to work on Holford Ward, a Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit based at Wellsprings Hospital Site. This is a fulfilling role within the Adult Mental Health and Learning Difficulties Directorate serving adults with acute Mental Health needs.

Work collaboratively with experienced nurses, occupational therapists and others to provide high-quality care and therapeutic engagement

This is a hands-on profession where creativity, empathy and interpersonal skills matter. You will be involved in care planning, observing and recording patient progress and contributing to an environment which promotes rehabilitation. Flexibility is necessary as the employment may include evenings, nights, weekends, bank holidays and lone working.

Key duties, tasks & skills required

• Assist qualified nurses and experts in assessing and treating patients
• Work with the interdisciplinary team to support the patient’s recovery
• Observe and report patient behaviour and progress to clinical team
• Assist with Risk Assessment
• Keep accurate clinical records and contribute to team handovers and meetings
• Encourage therapeutic mealtimes and assist patients with hygiene and personal care
• May be asked to work evenings, weekends, bank holidays and lone working during activities

Job description

As a Band 3 HCA/Activities Co-ordinator, you will be;

Engage patients: Build rapport and urge patients to engage with the MDT in an effort to promote their recovery

Work with Occupational Therapists, Psychologists and nursing personnel to achieve specific rehabilitation goals.

Plan & Organise: Manage personal time

Support Clinical Practice: Participate in clinical discussions, assist with care planning and risk management

Ensure Safety & Compliance: Follow Trust policies, health and safety legislation and safeguarding policies. Participate in required training and supervision

Contribute to Service Development: Engage in quality improvement activities, audits and reviews to improve patient care

Drive & Transport: May be expected to drive ward vehicles for off-site activities (valid driving license and proper insurance necessary – preferred)

Education & Credentials

Good general standard of education

Sufficient literacy skills

Experience

Experience of working with persons in a health care setting (HCA, rehabilitation assistant) including mental health problems and dementia

Previous experience working in a mental health context.

Experience of working in groups or individually

Important.

Excellent communication abilities.

Compassionate – strong interpersonal skills
