The Radiotherapy Department currently has a vacancy for a Band 6 Therapeutic Radiographer. This would be ideal for anyone wishing to develop both personally and professionally in a busy and forward-thinking Radiotherapy Department.

You will rotate through all treatment and pre-treatment areas. You must be HCPC registered, possess a BSc (Hons) in Radiotherapy or equivalent, and be fully flexible with shift requirements. Due to the variable nature of the work, you will be required to cover early and late shifts and possible weekend shifts as appropriate.

We currently have two Tomotherapy Radixact units and four Varian Truebeams, 2 with AlignRT and 2 with ExacTrac, all interfaced with Mosaiq in a paperless environment. We are currently installing a fifth TrueBeam with Align RT and a third Tomotherapy Radixact. We also offer HDR and superficial skin treatments within the department. The pre-treatment section comprises of two Canon wide bore CT scanners and the Raystation treatment planning system.

Main duties of the job

  • To work as a member of the Multi-disciplinary Team (MDT), communicating fully with other team members, and to be involved in the total care of patients undergoing Radiotherapy treatment.
  • To give support and advice to patients and relatives before, during, and after treatment.
  • To ensure the highest standard of care is provided at all times within the resources available.
  • To contribute towards the continual monitoring of the service to comply with the local and national guidelines.
  • To give support and technical advice to staff and students, undertake training and supervision of junior staff, students and Apprentices.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Diploma of the College of Radiographers or B.Sc. Hons equivalent
  • Health and Care Professions Council registration

Desirable

  • Management courses
  • M.Sc. level award
  • Research methodologies

Experience

Essential

  • Radiotherapy experience: A variety of external beam delivery units
  • Radiotherapy experience: Advanced Radiotherapy techniques in particular experience of IMRT and IGRT
  • Radiotherapy experience: Completed preceptorship period
  • Training and education: Informal teaching and training of students
  • Personal development: Evidence of additional personal study, active CPD and working at the level of the advertised post

Desirable

  • Radiotherapy experience: Pre-treatment units and dosimetry

Knowledge

Essential

  • Knowledge of principles and practice of radiotherapy and oncology
  • Knowledge of principles of radiotherapy planning
  • Working knowledge of Windows programmes
  • Knowledge of and use of different information sources
  • Knowledge and application of national regulations relating to ionising radiation for medical exposure (IR(ME)R)
  • Knowledge and application of regulations related to obtaining informed consent
