An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated Registered Nurse to join the Powys Immunisation and Vaccination Service, based in Bronllys, working across Mid and South Powys.
You will play a key role in delivering immunisation and vaccination programmes that protect and improve the health of local communities. Vaccinations are delivered in a range of settings, including vaccination centres, community hospitals, care homes and outreach clinics.
Working alongside Lead Nurses and Clinical Supervisors, you will provide safe, evidence-based, person-centred care. The role includes clinical assessment, vaccine administration in line with national guidance, promoting vaccine confidence, supporting health promotion activities, and providing day-to-day support to Healthcare Support Worker Immunisers.
Previous immunisation experience is desirable but not essential, as full training and ongoing professional development will be provided. We are seeking registered nurses with an interest in public health, prevention and improving population health outcomes.
The ability to travel independently to vaccination sites across Powys is essential.

Main duties of the job
As an Immunisation Nurse, you will support the delivery of immunisation and vaccination programmes across Powys, helping to protect communities and improve population health. Working within a community-based service, you will provide vaccinations in settings including vaccination centres, community hospitals, care homes and outreach clinics.
Key responsibilities include:
- Undertaking clinical assessments and supporting informed consent and capacity decisions where required.
- Administering vaccines safely and effectively in line with national guidance, PGDs and VGDs.
- Promoting vaccine confidence through health promotion and evidence-based discussions.
- Supporting, supervising and developing Healthcare Support Worker Immunisers and students.
- Contributing to immunisation programme delivery, including catch-up campaigns and outbreak response activities.
- Maintaining accurate clinical records and contributing to quality improvement and clinical governance.
You will work collaboratively with colleagues, partner organisations and local communities to improve vaccination uptake and reduce health inequalities. The post requires excellent communication skills, flexibility and the ability to work independently while maintaining high standards of clinical safety and person-centred care.
Person Specification
Qualifications and/or Knowledge
Essential
- Registered Nurse with NMC registration
- Evidence of continuing professional development.
- Understanding of the public health role of immunisation and vaccination services.
- Knowledge of the Welsh Government National Immunisation Framework and national immunisation schedules.
- Knowledge of safeguarding and the Mental Capacity Act 2005.
- Evidence of Basic Life Support and anaphylaxis training.
- IT literate with experience of Microsoft Office applications, outlook email and internet use.
Desirable
- Completion of, or willingness to undertake, National Minimum Standards and Core Curriculum for Immunisation Training
- Knowledge of cold chain management and vaccine storage requirements.
- Understanding of audit, quality improvement and clinical governance processes.
