We are looking for a compassionate and motivated Support Worker to join our dynamic Community Mental Health Team. You’ll be working alongside nurses, social workers, psychologists, and psychiatrists to support adults living with mental health conditions in their recovery journey. As a Community Mental Health Support Worker, you will play a vital role in supporting individuals experiencing mental health challenges within their local communities. Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, you will help service users achieve their recovery goals, maintain independence, and improve their overall well-being.

Main duties of the job

  • Provide practical and emotional support to service users in their homes and community settings.
  • Assist service users to develop their daily living skills, including budgeting, cooking, and accessing local services.
  • Support care planning and recovery-focused interventions alongside other members of the multidisciplinary team.
  • Encourage engagement in social, educational, and vocational activities.
  • Monitor the service user’s mental state and escalate concerns as appropriate.
  • Promote independence, dignity, and choice in all aspects of care.
  • Work within a multidisciplinary community mental health team, contributing to team discussions.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • Literacy skills
  • NVQ Level 3 or equivalent mental health experience

Desirable

  • Training in mental health awareness or recovery-focused approaches

Experience

Essential

  • Experience working with individuals with mental health issues
  • Experience working in a multidisciplinary team
  • Experience working in a role supporting individuals with housing, finances, and social issues.

Desirable

  • Experience working in a community mental health team
  • Experience working with service users and carers in their own homes

Knowledge

Essential

  • Understanding of mental health conditions and their impact on daily life
  • Ability to provide practical and emotional support to service users
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills, including active listening
  • Ability to promote independence, dignity, and choice
  • Basic IT skills for record-keeping and communication

Desirable

  • Knowledge of the local community and resources
