We are seeking to recruit a passionate, knowledgeable and dynamic Specialist support worker to join our well-established and innovative learning disabilities inpatient service for Adults. The Specialist Support Worker will be able to deliver elements of health and social care and undertake clinical work in domains that have previously only been within the remit of registered professionals. To work with other members of the multidisciplinary team to facilitate the development and delivery of assessment and treatment-oriented care. This includes contributing to the full range of care tasks, including the co-ordination of shifts under supervision from the Nurse in Charge, taking on the role of care coordinator under the supervision of the Charge Nurse, co-facilitating therapeutic groups and individual activities, information gathering and analysis to inform a multi-disciplinary formulation, audit and specific aspects of therapeutic intervention

You will be joining a friendly, supportive and creative multi-disciplinary team, dedicated to providing a high-quality service which complements the work done by our wider CTLD colleagues and in liaison/partnership with other care services.

 

Main duties of the job

  • Undertake a range of delegated clinical and administrative duties in learning disability settings
  • Take on the role of primary nurse under the supervision of the Charge Nurse in line with local quality standards
  • Contribute to a full range of routine care tasks such as supporting self-care, routine observations and risk assessment once trained and under supervision from a registered professional
  • Provide and facilitate recreational, social and educational group and individual activities as part of the Ward / hospital wide in-patient programme; following set aims and objectives
  • Co-facilitate therapeutic groups under the supervision of a registered professional appropriate for the service user group
  • Engage with and gather information from service users, relatives and patient records to support a multi-disciplinary formulation and care plan
  • Provide assistance and support with welfare benefits and patients’ financial situations
  • Liaise with patients’ families around admission, belongings and finances
  • Conduct agreed audit to support service development activity
  • Deliver specified aspects of therapeutic interventions, once trained, under close supervision from a registered professional.
  • To ensure all service users are aware of activities which may be of benefit to them and how these can be accessed.
  • To contribute to assessment and support the development and implementation of recovery plans.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • NVQ level 4 in a relevant subject (e.g. Social Care, Health) OR ? Extensive clinical experience and evidence of professional development in the specific work setting the application is being made
  • Care Certificate (or complete this within a reasonable time fame)
  • Evidence of a commitment to lifelong learning

Knowledge/Experience

Essential

  • Experience of working with people with mental health needs in a paid or voluntary capacity
  • Experience running groups/activities
  • Experience working as part of a team
  • Experience of being supervised
  • Experience of analysing and communicating complex information verbally and in writing
