Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Clinical Engagement Worker to join the Specialist Community Forensic Team (SCFT) in the Adult Forensic Service based at the Riverside Centre, Prestwich.

SCFT is a community-based service in Greater Manchester providing support to individuals with severe and enduring mental health issues relating to their offending/risk behaviour who have been discharged from a secure inpatient setting. This role offers an excellent opportunity to develop your skills within a specialist service supporting adults with complex clinical and forensic needs. The team works alongside the service users’ locality Community Mental Health Team (CMHT), supporting with specialist forensic knowledge until it is determined they can be discharged from SCFT to the CMHT.

This post works within a multidisciplinary team that is experienced, friendly and supportive, offering a reflective and encouraging environment. The role includes direct clinical contact, indirect MDT work and liaison with a range of professionals across other services.

In this role, you will be responsible for a small caseload of patients who are already residing in the community or are about to be discharged from a secure setting. You will manage this caseload alongside one of the team’s Forensic Community Psychiatric Nurses.

We are seeking an enthusiastic, dynamic individual able to demonstrate a strong sense of initiative, adapting to any given situation, and who works well in a team.

Main duties of the job

• You will be employed as a band 4 clinical engagement worker within SCFT. This role will involve working with patients residing across the Greater Manchester area.
• The team is operational Monday – Friday, 9-5, and there is a requirement to travel across the Greater Manchester locality.
• You will be required to hold a small caseload of patients under supervision, who have a history of offending behaviours, which also includes those who may be subject to conditions by the ministry of justice, or those who may be subject to license conditions and managed by probation services.
• Your role will support patients’ transition from an inpatient secure hospital into the community.
• You will be a part of a robust and supportive MDT where risk must be reviewed and fed back regularly.
• You will provide practical support for daily living, helping service users attend appointments (health, social, criminal justice), and connecting them with local community groups. Focusing on individual strengths and assets to promote empowerment, meaningful activity, employment, and volunteering.
• Ensuring compassion-based and trauma-informed approaches to ensure service user rights and needs are met.
